With WGA and SAG-AFTRA members on strike, this weekend's D23 was a relatively low-key affair. Hollywood A-Listers were nowhere to be seen, and with so much uncertainty surrounding the release of upcoming movies and TV shows, there wasn't much in the way of new footage either.
However, the first 10 minutes of Loki were shown to attendees and it picked up with the God of Mischief immediately after the events of the show's season 1 finale.
Rather than being left stranded in a different reality by Sylvie, it appears Loki was instead sent back in time to a TVA which was openly ruled over by Kang the Conqueror/He Who Remains. After going on the run from Mobius, the Asgardian continues glitching back and forth.
It appears the mystery surrounding the Time-Keepers will also be a big part of the series. For whatever reason, Kang went from openly ruling the TVA to hiding behind that trio's facade, with no one who works for the organization left with any memory of that period (suggesting he's been manipulating those Variants for eons).
Here's what to expect from Loki season 2's opening courtesy of @MediaverseCU:
The season opens with Mobius chasing Loki throughout the TVA. No one recognizes Loki. He tries to escape Fifth Element style by jumping into the back of some kind of flying taxi.
They hit the statue of Kang then crash into the TVA. He glitches through time and Casey recognizes him. Loki realizes he’s going back and forth in time.
There was a version of the TVA in the past where Kang openly ruled them and no one remembers, something happened to cause Kang to hide behind the Time Keepers facade.
Loki season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.
The series stars Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Rafael Casal, Tara Strong, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Neil Ellice, with Jonathan Majors, Ke Huy Quan and Owen Wilson.
Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw and Kasra Farahani direct episodes. The Head Writer is Eric Martin.
Loki season 2 begins streaming on October 6, exclusively on Disney+.
