Well, what an episode that was, eh? We're now beyond Loki season 2's halfway point and, in tonight's fourth chapter, the Time Variance Authority's secrets are finally revealed.
It was during the show's first batch of episodes that we learned the TVA is full of Variants, though no explanation for why they don't remember their respective histories was given. Then, in the season 2 premiere, Loki travelled back in time and discovered Kang/He Who Remains once openly ruled over the TVA.
It was only later he'd hide behind the facade of the Time-Keepers, with the TVA's agents unwittingly believing that is who they serve.
In this episode, Miss Minutes makes good on her promises to reveal He Who Remains' big secret to Ravonna Renslayer, and we actually get to see the conversation first heard in the recording Loki found. However, shortly after the Kang Variant vowed to rule the TVA with Ravonna at his side, he ordered Miss Minutes to wipe all of their memories.
Ravonna once commanded his army and, we're assuming those Variants - who would go on to serve the TVA - fought alongside her and Kang in an effort to end the Multiversal War and create his Sacred Timeline. We'd expected this to be the case, of course, but why did he betray them by dreaming up a fake history?
Those answers are hopefully coming and, elsewhere, despite declaring her love for Kang Variant Victor Timely in 1893, a vengeful Miss Minutes believes she and Ravonna can now take control of the TVA and, by extension, time itself.
In fact, we see first-hand what a crazy b*tch the A.I. is when she talks Hunter X-5 into betraying his fellow Hunters and watches on with glee as they're all brutally killed. Later taking over the TVA, she tells Victor "You'll never be him," before losing the upper hand shortly after Ravonna is pruned!
We don't see what becomes of her, unfortunately, but perhaps this means we're heading back to The Void where we'll encounter even more Loki Variants?
Loki season 2 will pick up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority.
