VisionQuest opens with a tone-setting existential question from its protagonist: "Who am I?"

Vision (Paul Bettany), the synthezoid-turned-Avenger, reflects on his complex history from his mind being forged by Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, and the creation of his physical form by Ultron.

Above all else, he remembers Wanda Maximoff, the woman whose love made him feel truly human.

He continues to recount his tragic death at the hands of Thanos and his unexpected rebirth as the White Vision: possessing the same synthetic body, but stripped of his previous memories and emotional core.

In the real world, we learn that Vision has been living incognito under his human avatar in Edinburgh, Scotland. He works at a local tavern—a spot he frequented with Wanda when they were on the run, where the initials "W + V" remain faintly carved into a wooden table. To get us up to speed on what he knows about her status, he says that Wanda is presumed dead, crushed beneath the collapse of Mount Wundagore, leaving him utterly alone in the world.

To process his ongoing identity crisis, Vision spends much of his time in his internal mindscape, visualized as a large mansion. Within this digital sanctuary, his consciousness lives with a familiar network of Stark AI constructs: J.A.R.V.I.S. (James D'Arcy), F.R.I.D.A.Y. (Orla Brady), D.U.M.E. (Henry Lewis), and U (Jonathan Sayer).

J.A.R.V.I.S. detects a subtle data leak coming from the ceiling—a potential security breach, but Vision dismisses his concern, reasoning that no one in the outside world, not even the Avengers, is actively searching for him, so they're safe. We hear someone's voice coming from the attic, but Vision ignores it for now.

Shortly after, E.D.I.T.H. (Emily Hampshire) makes a dramatic entrance, crashing through the skylight. She has a more spontaneous and adventurous personality, and seems to be actively helping Vision discover what it means to be human.

Taking her advice, Vision goes to the home theater in his mind. He continues to revisit key memories from his past—his creation in Age of Ultron, the airport battle in Civil War, and his final sacrifice in Infinity War—hoping to reignite the emotional resonance of the previous Vision, but he can't quite get there.

Upon returning to his inner sanctum, Vision finds D.U.M.E. and U viewing stolen S.W.O.R.D. footage from the Westview incident. They reveal they were instructed to play it by Ultron (James Spader), who is being kept imprisoned within the mansion's attic.

Vision ascends to confront Ultron and we see him in his original mechanical form, but Vision demands he switch to his human avatar. Ultron mockingly dissects Vision's internal struggle, pointing out the hypocrisy of claiming to follow his former self while chasing Wanda’s ghost.

Now even more philosophical than before, Ultron claims to understand humanity far better than Vision does. When asked what he would do if freed, Ultron quips that it is a 50/50 split: he would either spend his days visiting art museums or burn human civilization to the ground. Fair enough.

Before Vision leaves, Ultron leaves him with a warning: a day is coming when humanity will come looking for him again. Unbeknownst to Vision, Ultron is already quietly broadcasting an outgoing signal to the outside world. Uh oh.

Back in Edinburgh, Vision returns to his shift at the bar. He shares a rare moment of warm connection with the elderly bar owner Fiona Guthrie (Polly Frame), who invites him over for a warm meal. The quiet moment is violently shattered when a sniper shot strikes and kills Fiona instantly.

A heavily armed mercenary team surrounds the establishment. Vision fights back, taking everyone out with relative ease. However, the operation is being monitored from a distance by a tactical mercenary named Paladin (Todd Stashwick).

Seeing his ground team fail, Paladin calls in an armored van equipped with a heavy energy cannon, which causes massive damage. He clocks Paladin, but spares him, and flies off into the night. E.D.I.T.H. provides an escape route.

Inspecting the wreckage, Paladin receives an incoming transmission from a mysterious Client who has breached his comms. The Client seems frustrated that Vision escaped, emphasizing that securing Vision intact was the primary objective.

Regrouping at a new hideout, Vision initiates a system diagnostic while his internal AI network convenes to analyze the attack. J.A.R.V.I.S., who Vision views as his brother, offers sympathy over the loss of Fiona.

Then, realizing they are actively being hunted, Vision states that to survive, they must adapt and start thinking like a predator. After some heated discussion, the team decides to bring Ultron into the strategy sesion, with Vision threatening him with total deletion if he steps out of line.

Ultron advises them to hunt down their pursuer, though he notes that Vision has probably already decided to hide. Vision admits that he is considering shutting himself down to protect the rest of the AIs. J.A.R.V.I.S. suggests reaching out to Bruce Banner or Clint Barton, but Vision rejects the idea, stating he has no family left to turn to.

While the group deliberates on how the mercenaries managed to pinpoint Vision’s location, Vision realizes the truth: Ultron leaked his location. Ultron owns up to the betrayal, explaining that while Paladin led the assault force, an unknown third party posted the actual bounty. Furious, Vision returns Ultron to his attic vault. However, instead of deleting him, Vision chooses total isolation instead: he wipes the room clean of all amenities and media access, leaving Ultron alone in complete, featureless boredom.

Meanwhile, Paladin and his Handler (Diane Morgan) run a trace on Vision’s Scottish alias—Sherwood Ellis—back to its origins in S.W.O.R.D.’s Westview files. Searching for potential leverage, they pivot to tracking down either Wanda or theeir missing twin sons, Billy and Tommy. Their search triggers a match in London.

Cut to London and we meet Tommy Maximoff Thomas Shepherd, a young man running street cons with his partner-in-crime, Lisa Molinari (Lauren Morais). They make some quick cash after selling a fake watch to mark.

As they are celebrating their small score, Tommy sees an urgent news alert declaring that Vision is alive, triggering a sudden rush of buried memories from his time in Westview. Before he can process the news, the mark they scammed spots them and gives chase. Tommy and Lisa duck into an alley to hide, but during the confusion, Tommy is ambushed and captured by Paladin, who leaves Lisa behind.

Back in his mindscape, Vision receives an incoming satellite transmission from Paladin. Ignoring J.A.R.V.I.S.’s warnings about being reckless, Vision answers Paladin's call and sees video footage of Tommy beind held captive.

Vision stares at the screen, completely stunned. Staring at the young adult—who seems to possess memories of WandaVision—Vision is left with one major question: How is Tommy alive?

In our review, we said, "VisionQuest is extraordinary—a brilliantly written and masterfully acted exploration of love, loss, family, grief, and change. It shows us what it means to feel, what it means to be human, and serves as an outstanding thematic capstone to this Wanda and Vision trilogy. Existing on its own terms—unburdened by its past in WandaVision or the franchise’s upcoming December showdown, Avengers: Doomsday—the series is about Vision and Vision alone, showcasing what makes this core Avenger one of the greatest to ever do it."

Marvel Television’s “VisionQuest,” an all-new original series coming exclusively to Disney+ October 14, concludes the epic trilogy that began with 2021’s groundbreaking, award-winning “WandaVision” and 2024’s acclaimed “Agatha All Along.” Vision, rebooted and having escaped from those who sought to weaponize him, has been in hiding. Searching for new meaning, he consults the AI personas embedded in his programming, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., J.A.R.V.I.S., and the infamous Ultron. His discreet existence ends when a bounty placed on his head thrusts him on the run with Thomas Shepherd, a mysterious boy who may be Vision’s son, reincarnate. As Vision evades capture, he must confront his nature, resist Ultron's influence, and unravel the enigma that is his young companion if he’s to survive.

Just saw episode 1 and...wow, loved it. It would do perfectly well without the bad guy hunting Vision tbh, but very solid.
