WHAT IF...? - Here Are The Returning MCU Actors From Today's Penultimate Episode (And Who Was Recast)

Today's epic episode of What If...? set the stage for a massive finale, but which actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe reprised their roles in the animated series, and was James Spader among them?

We now have just one episode of What If...? remaining, and it looks like the stage has been set for the Guardians of the Multiverse to finally assemble. After paying a visit to the "Age of Ultron," things definitely escalated in this reality, but how many familiar voices from the Marvel Cinematic Universe were included in "What If...Ultron Won?"

Jeffrey Wright was obviously given a much bigger role as The Watcher, but the cast of this penultimate episode was otherwise relatively small.

Jeremy Renner returned as Hawkeye, while he was joined by Toby Jones as Arnim Zola. Benedict Cumberbatch, meanwhile, was back as the Strange Supreme iteration of Doctor Strange, but that was it in terms of MCU actors. Black Widow was once again voiced by Lake Bell, and the Harley Quinn star continues to prove herself every bit as good as Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff.

Josh Keaton voiced Steve Rogers/Captain America, while Mick Wingert returned as Tony Stark/Iron Man, as did Alexandra Daniels as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel.

However, while Ultron might have gained The Vision's body, the villain didn't have his voice. Avengers: Age of Ultron star James Spader didn't play the character, either; instead, Ross Marquand (who stars in The Walking Dead and played Red Skull in the last two Avengers movies) brought the powerful villain to life. He definitely sounded like Spader, but wasn't quite a perfect match.

What did you guys think of today's penultimate episode of What If...?

This episode was absolutely insane. Loved every minute.

It was great that Toby Jones came back. If Zola is in Siberian headquarters, it is possible that Helmut spoke to him during Civil War.

Perhaps Zola revealed to Helmut the story of Baron Heinrich Zemo. So, Helmut destroys Zola to hide the Zemo family's association with Hydra.

Nahh you tweaking with Lake Bells voice, she is just good enough

@mrbrownvp1 - Yeah, and the guy playing Ultron sounded absolutely NOTHING like James Spader. Sounded more like Agent Smith than anything.

@Tasmaniac - I actually thought it was Spader. I also thought Nat was Scarlett. If it takes a credit roll for me to confirm it's not them, then it's good enough.

@Tasmaniac - I heard it was Ross Marquand who played red skull in endgame which was originally played by Hugo weaving who played agent smith in the matrix.

@Antitrollpatrol - Got his impressions mixes up I’d say! NO ONE sounds like Spader. He’s got a hypnotic oiliness to his voice that stands alone. His monologues in Boston Legal, The Practice and The Blacklist are just captivating. One of the reasons I was so disappointed with AoU - it was so obvious so much of his character development had been left out. #RELEASETHEWHEDONCUT

@Tasmaniac - Yeah, some of the articles here are obviously paid by Marvel, it has to be. The guy didn't sound at all as Spader, they should have use the same voice actor for Tony, would have been closer to MCU Ultron

Did anyone hear Ultron say ‘world’s that needs me’ when he gets the stones? Did no one in the writing room notice the fact that makes no sense? It’s ‘world that needs me’ or ‘world’s that need me’. Really poor lol

Also, wasn’t a fan of The Watcher saying ‘what the hell is this’, felt out of character for some as proper as him, small gripe but was jarring

@MyCoolYoung - I watched the episode my guy, I could see how he was feeling, ‘what the hell is this’ still doesn’t fit his character. Even ‘what on earth is this’ would’ve been better
