WHAT IF...? - Here Are All The Returning MCU Actors In Today's ZOMBIES Episode (And Who Was Recast)

Today's episode of What If...? once again brought back some familiar voices from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but who took over for Tom Holland as Spider-Man? Find the answer to that question here!

Today's episode of What If...? was rather appropriately titled "What If...Zombies?!" and if this is all we get to see from the Marvel Zombies in the MCU, well, it was a pretty fun ride.

Of course, we're sure you're interested in which actors did and didn't reprise their Marvel Studios roles for this one, and it was actually a surprisingly star-studded adventure. Mark Ruffalo was back as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, while the late Chadwick Boseman once again lent his voice to T'Challa/Black Panther.

We also had Paul Bettany (Vision), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne/Wasp), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Ebony).

There were only two recasts this time: Josh Keaton returned as Steve Rogers after voicing him in the first episode of What If...?, while it was Hudson Thames filling in for Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

The actor has appeared in Mad Men, American Soul, and the upcoming Ghosts. He only has a small number of voice acting roles to his name, but did a pretty spectacular job of bringing the wall-crawler to life here. While Hudson sounded a lot like Holland, he very much put his own spin on this Peter at the same time.

What did you guys think about today's episode of What If...?

Another good one. Marvel needs to do this animation thing more often.

@KWilly - They will! They are starting up their own animation studio and there's rumors of a collab with pixar.

Black Panther being mutilated to feed a zombie girlfriend is taken from the original MZ comic, and also, Antman as a sarcastic funny talking head is just like Deadpool in MZ.

What if Cosmic Ghost Rider is definitely something they should explore in the future.

I've noticed different studios are responsible for each episode. Explains the different looks. Todays episode felt more cgi compared to the more hand-drawn episode from last week. Not saying this is how it is, just how I perceive it. Like them all, but the first might be my favorite if you simply go by how it looks.

Too bad Josh Keaton didnt voice spiderman.

Maybe one day. Best spiderman we have ever had, cut too short

Thanos, buddy!
How did you let yourself get bitten, you [frick]ing muppet?
Use the red stone in your hand and turn them into rocks and strings or something..

Plus: What are you doing in Wakanda in the first place?

What a moron.

Really enjoyed this episode. So far, Marvel Zombies, Star-ChaCha, and What if the Avengers got murked are all my favorites in no specific order.

Hmmm... Maybe Moon Knight will be alright in Disney+. Some of those zombie kills were graphic and story points were dark.

They sure pack a lot in such short episodes. So far, I really like the series. Having the majority of the actors reprise their roles for the voices is such an added bonus. Even the recast voices are so spot on. TBH, I'm over the zombie genre. I think it's over done. It's been like a decade of nearly non-stop Zombie content. From video games, to shows, and films, it just became a bit oversaturated. But this episode was pretty cool.

This was such a bizarre episode. It felt like things were too jokey at times, but every time they got serious or sad I realized an entire episode of that much horrific loss would be pretty unbearable

Still can't believe they actually fully delivered on the. Marvel Zombies premise.

My least favourite episode so far. Still had a lot of good stuff in it, though.

Sooo.. the Guardians and Thor should show up any minute now in Wakanda right?

Plus, Bucky definetly survived that fall and I think the Hulk can't die from Zombie bites as shown in the episode so.

Star-Lord, Nebula, Drax, Mantis, Groot, Rocket, Thor, Valkyrie, Korg, Captain Marvel, (Nick Fury?), Hulk, Bucky, Spider-man, Black Panther and Futurama-Wizard-Antman are all alive, ready to fight Zombie Thanos.

Cool!

@SpaceAgent - I also like to think Shuri somehow survived, as I feel like if they decide to do a sequel, she should come in

@Armageddon26 - Also potentially Abomination and the Eternals.

@SpaceAgent - M'Baku and the J'Abari tribe are alive. They are isolated on the mountain where the virus has not reached. Also, if a sequel has funny moments, M'Baku is perfect for it.

Also, they don't eat meat.

@Repian - That's right.. I forgot. How could I?, But you're absolutely right.

Also side note: I really hope this guy becomes the new Black Panther.
OmegaDaGrodd

@SpaceAgent - I'm pretty sure the Guardians die on Titan when Thanos shows up there expecting Ebony Maw

That said, I'm pretty sure Thor cleans up everybody when he gets there with Rocket and Groot
SpaceAgent
SpaceAgent - 9/8/2021, 4:05 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - I guess you're right with the Guardians. Also does that mean that Thanos after defeating the Guardians on Titan teleports to NY to find Maw and where he would have left the Time Stone. Only to pick it up lying around in the streets from Dr. Stange's skeleton.

For some reason I find that image rather funny.

Alsoooooo, why exactely is he in Wakanda... I guess it doesn't really matter, does it.
Maybe because he somehow heard that they want to go there with the mind stone and instead of fighting them in New Jersey he jumped over to Wakanda to wait for them instead.
CLTMAN29
CLTMAN29 - 9/8/2021, 5:43 AM
@SpaceAgent - They really are dropping the ball with some of the logic on these episodes timelines. Good spot on the Wakanda thing - he literally had no reason to be there.
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 9/8/2021, 7:05 AM
@SpaceAgent - yea there's pretty much no reason for Thanos to be in Wakanda if the stone's not there

More importantly tho, if Thanos went Zombie, why is he still collecting stone's? Unless THIS is the scenario that gets him to land on "infinite (human) resources" like everyone's been clamoring for LOL
SpaceAgent
SpaceAgent - 9/8/2021, 7:13 AM
@OmegaDaGrodd - well jumping through the logic hoops here...:
I'd say that Zombies somehow made it into Wakanda seperately from Thanos.
Then Thanos after collecting the 5 stones learns somehow about the survivors plan to take the last stone to Wakanda.
And instead of fighting them imidiately, he jumps ahead to Wakanda to wait for them.
And it's only here where he sees the Zombies, and ..somehow ... gets.. overrun? .. by Zombies?!

What an absolute muppet.

Man, that was a LOT of fun! Grim and gross as befitting a zombie tale…but still pure MCU.

My biggest surprise was our first MCU name drop of Uncle Ben, really thought they were just gonna wait on that lol, not that we didn’t know but they’ve been putting it off.

Fun episode, was the one I was most excited for and maybe that’s why I didn’t like it as much as the last two weeks, but it was great nonetheless. Hope we get a follow up episode
