Charlize Theron & KiKi Layne To Star In THE OLD GUARD Image Comics Adaptation For Netflix
With Sony's Silver and Black movie stalled, director Gina Prince-Bythewood is set to tackle an adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's comic, The Old Guard, and now the movie has found its leads.
Though Sony's planned Silver and Black movie is apparently still on the studio's to do list, with the Spidey spinoff stuck in limbo for the time being, director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Cloak and Dagger, The Secret Life of Bees) has lined up another project: a Netflix adaptation of Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernandez's sci-fi action comic series, The Old Guard.
Now, Deadline reports that Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) and If Beale Street Could Talk breakout KiKi Layne have landed the lead roles.
For those unfamiliar with the story, here's a synopsis:
"The Old Guard focuses on a small group of soldiers, led by a woman named Andy, who are inexplicably immortal and have been working as mercenaries through the ages. The novelty of not dying long gone, the group gets a jolt in their bones when they discover the existence of a new immortal, a black woman serving in the Marines, at the same time as a nefarious organization captures their undying actions on camera."
The Old Guard will be produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger, along with Theron, Beth Kono and AJ Dix for Denver and Delilah; and Marc Evans. Rucka os penning the script himself.
