Netflix's Upcoming SABRINA Series Casts MAD MEN Star Kiernan Shipka As The Titular Teenage Witch

Multiple sources are reporting that Kiernan Shipka has been cast as the lead character, Sabrina Spellman, in Netflix's upcoming Sabrina TV series, which will reportedly be based on the popular Archie Comics graphic novel The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

The Untitled Sabrina Project is expected to reimagine the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Shipka's iteration of the character is being described as an empowered young woman, half-human, half-witch, who is just beginning her dark education as a sorceress, even as she tries to maintain a normal life as a sophomore at Baxter High. Intelligent, compassionate and brave to the point of recklessness, Sabrina is all that stands between us and the forces of darkness that threaten our world.

The series has already been ordered straight-to-series and has been given a 20-episode, two-season run to begin with, so expect to see it on the streaming platform at some point in the not-so-distant future.

Shipka is best known for her role as Sally Draper on the hit AMC series Mad Men and has also made appearances on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23, American Dad!, Family Guy, and Feud: Bette and Joan

@ODanil - It ties in with this real life 1971 Coca-Cola ad:

@L0RDbuckethead - "video not available in your country"

but maybe it's for the best. I keep wanting to go back to it, but it was soo long ago...

@ODanil - Oh, my bad. Here's an article kind of explaining it. I watched the series from day 1 and it was a pretty satisfying ending, even with the dip in quality in the last two seasons.

@ODanil - Go watch it. Dons marriage plot was kinda lame overall but its all worth it once you get to the final season and finale. Great stuff

@L0RDbuckethead @ODanil- I was struggling to stay engaged with Mad Men for the last 2 seasons, especially Don's "walkabout" in California phase. Even the first 45 minutes of the finale seemed like a bust.

And then...the ingenious meta-narrative of that final scene rewarded the faithful. Knowing where (and when) they were going to end, the show runners hit a bottom of the ninth home run to close Don's story. I had no faith the show would end on the same caliber that it began, but that final scene HAD to be their intention since Episode 1.

@ImperiousRex - I'd have to agree. Although for the longest time I for sure thought Don was going to end up being DB Cooper. I would've been mad if they ended it that way. I was very pleased with the ending Weiner the rest of the writers chose.

@L0RDbuckethead - I thought the guy who created it said it was gonna end with Don as an old man or something like that.

@DirkLargepeck - I'm not sure, I don't remember him originally saying that. Sounds like an idea they could've had early on.

@DirkLargepeck - I remember hearing the same thing. He was going to be old, and pretty much sitting at a bar telling his life story.

She was great in Mad Men... She became very angsty as she got older, but that's how her character was written on the show. She'll do well in this role.

@TheManWithoutFear - innit crazy how good Riverdale is? From what I’ve heard about iZombie(I need to check it out), Riverdale and Zombie might be the CWs best shows.

I watched Riverdale on Netflix last year; came across it in the feed and was like

Then I clicked on it was like

Haven't watched any S2 Riverdale yet, despite liking S1 better than expected. Now this though, this is something I'm very much looking forward to.
