The world of Riverdale is about to get a whole lot bigger as Entertainment Weekly has learned that The CW is in the early stages of development on a new spinoff series centered on one of Archie Comics' most popular characters, Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

The new series, titled The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, will draw inspiration from the comic series of the same name and will be a much darker coming-of-age tale that will blend together various elements of horror, the occult, and witchcraft. This darker adventure will be a vast departure from the classic Melissa Joan Hart-led series Sabrina the Teenage Witch and is tonally being described in the same vein as Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist as Sabrina battles to control her dual nature as half-witch, half-mortal and will see her make a stand against the evil forces that threaten her family and the world she lives in.

The series is being eyed for the 2018-2019 television season, so there is an outside chance that fans might get to see Sabrina Spellman make her possible debut on her sister series Riverdale before breaking off on her own, but that's just speculation at this point.

Robert Aguirre-Sacasa will write the pilot and will executive produce the series with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Lee Toland Krieger.
