STRANGER THINGS Showrunners Drop Some Huge Hints About What To Expect From Season 4 - SPOILERS

Stranger Things season three ended with some huge hints about what comes next, and now showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer have talked about how they will expand the series moving into season four...

In Stranger Things' post-credits scene, we learn that the Russians (who had spent the entirety of season three trying to access the Upside Down) have an American held prisoner, and speculation is running rampant that it's the seemingly deceased Hopper.

It's hard to believe he's really dead, after all, but how will our favourite characters make their way to Russia? Well, showrunner Matt Duffer has dropped some big hints about how the rescue could go down by revealing that "the biggest thing that’s going to happen" in Season 4 is that the show will "open up a little bit...in terms of allowing portals into areas outside of Hawkins."

That quite literally opens the door to Hopper being rescued, but moving outside of Hawkins would obviously change the show is some huge ways. However, Ross Duffer confirms the fourth season is "going to feel very different than this season. I think that’s the right thing to do and I think it’ll be exciting."

Finally, talk turned to that tease about the "American," but Matt wasn't willing to give anything away. "You definitely should not assume anything," he teased. "The line that Russian guard said is purposely intended to spark debate. We need people to ask the very questions that you’re asking." In other words, it sounds like we're just going to have to wait and see!

Are you excited for another season of Stranger Things

I can see portals opening up outside of Hawkins to broaden the world of Stranger Things but Hopper, after that heartfelt goodbye letter, should remain dead instead of it being a fake-out death.

“Hurt is good” as he said to Eleven because it allows for growth as these kids continue to grow up. Unless they really handle and execute it well of course.

@KWilly - I would say next Christmas time since there has been roughly a year and a half between seasons.

What holiday will they center on this time?

@MasterMix - Maybe around Thanksgiving or Christmas going by Mike's hope of when he and Eleven could meet up again. Sure S1 kinda took place in November but nowhere near the actual holiday.

I'm almost positive that "The American is Hopper, but I did hear a theory that it could be elevens real dad which would be interesting. I hope Brenner and Kali and her gang are in season 4 may be they will be the ones that help eleven get her powers back. Also they have to give Murray more to do because Brett Gelman is great.

Seasons 1 and 2 were both better. I liked how weird this season got though.

Idk how long this show could go on for. I think it's really gonna be pushing it if they keep going after a 4th season. There were elements towards the end of this season that started to drag/be repetitive of the other 2. The first season is a masterpiece and they really could have just cut it off there.

Considering he was looking around before the keys were turned, and then we didn't see him for a bit... it is entirely possible that rather than die, he dove for the rift, or one of the Russians opened a hatch that he then pulled Hopper into. His being alive would not diminish the letter at all IMHO. It would just make for a nice moment when Ell tells him how much that letter meant to her. But the Duffers probably have something even better planned.

I would be perfectly fine with Hopper’s letter losing its emotional impact just to have him come back and be a father to El.

When I saw Hopper looking at the portal, I saw a possibility of him surviving. Also, they never showed him disintegrate. They could still surprise us with another known character being "the American," but they doesn't prevent Hopper from returning in another way like in the climax when it seems they're about to all die and then Hopper shows up to save the day.

We didn’t see Hopper die, that’s a giveaway for him being alive. Anyone ever watch Prison Break? It’s Paul Kellerman all over again.
