Netflix has shared a new trailer and poster for The Witcher: Blood Origin (via SFFGazette.com), offering a better idea of what's to come when we head 1200 years into the Continent's past on Christmas Day.

Serving as a prequel to the main The Witcher series, the spin-off will explore a number of important moments in The Continent's history. Those will include the creation of the first Witcher and even the eventual Conjunction of the Spheres. However, despite that very different setting, at least one familiar face will be part of the show.

As you'll see below, the trailer ends with an appearance from Joey Batey's Jaskier, with the implication being that Minnie Driver's character has travelled through time to ensure he can witness those events first-hand and relay the lessons from that time to those in his present (Geralt of Rivia, for example).

Could this go some way in explaining some of the questions fans have had about Jaskier? We wouldn't be surprised, especially as fans have already noticed he doesn't seem to age each time he crosses paths with Geralt across that Witcher's long life. The bard will return in The Witcher season 3, so this story is likely to inform that one, making it essential viewing.

"Set in an elven world 1200 years before the time of Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, The Witcher: Blood Origin will tell a tale lost to history," reads The Witcher: Blood Origin's synopsis, "the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that led to the pivotal Conjunction of the Spheres, when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merged to become one."

This four-part prequel series is set to premiere on Netflix on December 25. You can check out the trailer and poster below!

I didn't realize the Witcher was spinoff popular for Netflix. How deep is the Witcher's lore? Is this original or from something within the game? I legit don't know

@MyCoolYoung -

It's like THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER. A story invented by the channel's writers, with no basis in the original books or in video games.

The same formula, with a character of each existing race or sexual orientation, to hook viewers from those sectors, but to the detriment of the plot and the story.

@lvcl - why does that have to be to the detriment of the plot? I heard great things about ring of power

In spite of some stupid-assed comments about the inclusion of people of color in this, (oh the horrors), anything with Michelle Yeoh in it, I'm willing to give it a good hard look.

@Mugens - Why are there only black people in Wakanda? Pretty racist.

I actually preferred the first trailer; I was pretty excited then. But this looks seriously generic & clichéd. And I can’t help but think of Channing Tatum from Jupiter Ascending every time I see the big guy with Elf ears. It’s seriously off putting.
