The Witcher is set to premiere on December 20, and Netflix has now released a brief first clip from the highly-anticipated fantasy adaptation.

Early word on the show has been quite positive, with the action scenes, in particular, coming in for a lot of praise. Here, we get some idea of what to expect from the fight choreography as Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) and a rodent-like ally (is he in the books?) take out several enemies at once.

Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski's series of fantasy novels - which have since spawned a hugely popular video game franchise - focus on monster hunters known as Witchers who develop supernatural abilities at a young age. The main character is Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a solitary Witcher who struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts.

The 8-episode first season will be written by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil, The Defenders, Umbrella Academy), who will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Alik Sakharov (House of Cards, Game of Thrones) will helm a total of four episodes, while Alex Garcia Lopez (Luke Cage, Fear The Walking Dead) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander, Counterpart) will direct two installments each.

Tell us, are you guys looking forward to The Witcher? Sound off in the usual place, and check out some previously released stills below.

Solid clip, especially on Cavills part. But is it me, or did it look like a lot of the hits in the latter half didn't connect and/or had no sound effects to them?

Anyways, plenty of pre-release clips are the actual clip just cut down and re-edited resulting in them not having the level of polish of the released clip. At least that's what I'm hoping the case is.

Unpopular opinion. This series looks bad. I will probably be wrong though.

Omg! Thank you for actually acknowledging the books. Way too many people are calling the upcoming netflix show as a video game adaptation.

@Origame - How was that acknowledging the books. He was just swinging his sword around?

I expect there to be some backlash from Witcher fans who have only played the games and have no idea this is a book adaptation
