New PENNY DREADFUL Season 2 Promo: "The Devil" Released

In this latest teaser for the second season of Showtime's brilliantly messed up horror series, Vanessa sits in the middle of a pentagram turning over tarot cards, and seems quite pleased

The new season will see Vanessa (Eva Green) and Ethan (Josh Hartnett) forming a deeper bond as the group, including Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton), Dr. Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), and Sembene (Danny Sapani), unite to banish the evil forces that threaten to destroy them. Meanwhile, Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), the Creature (Rory Kinnear) and Brona (Billie Piper) are all waging battles of their own. Patti LuPone will be as a mysterious character of great importance in Vanessa’s past. Helen McCrory returns as Evelyn Poole (a.k.a. Madame Kali), the seductive spiritualist who will pose a unique threat to our heroes this season, along with Simon Russell Beale, who is back as eccentric Egyptologist Ferdinand Lyle. Additional guest stars include Douglas Hodge as a Scotland Yard investigator, Sarah Greene as Poole’s powerful daughter, Hecate, and Johnny Beauchamp as a man with a singular past.

Showtime’s Penny Dreadful returns for its season two première on Sunday, April 26 at 10pm ET/PT. Series creator John Logan teases what's to come: “This season Vanessa and Ethan face new challenges and old enemies, and turn to each other for solace. Their intimacy grows as they are forced to confront their demons together.” We'll also have a new main villain, though we've met her before -- Madame Kali, the spiritualist and medium who hosted the Seance in the second episode of the first season. Says Showtime president David Nevins of the character: "There’s a great antagonist next year played by Helen McCrory… Season 1’s antagonist was sort of an inhuman character. It’ll be good to have a more human antagonist.”

In the end I didn't like S1 quite as much as I'd expected first, but I'm defintiely looking forward to what they're doing with S2. That little trailer was fun!

"Nothing is as it seems"

What a lame slogan. Eva's hot though.

May I ask why shows like these are written about on ComicBookMovie.com? Just curious.

Well although there's no comics of this particular series (yet anyway), the subjects of it (Frankenstein, Dracula, Mr. Hyde etc) have been featured in various comics over the years, plus it gets its title from the old "Pent Dreadfuls" which were cheap horror books and comics back in the era the show is set.

Even aside from all that we sometimes cover horror/sci-fi/fantasy stuff that doesn't have any solid ties to comics.

@Hellboy6666: It's pretty hard to say this show is like anything else, but the vibe of it reminds me of early X-Files mixed with the TV version of Hannibal. Lots of mystery and crazy dark images!
