AHSOKA: Twitter's Continued Issues Were Why That New Trailer Wasn't Released As Planned Last Weekend

For those of you wondering why the Ahsoka trailer we mentioned last week wasn't released as planned over the weekend, a new report reveals Twitter's ongoing issues were the main reason it's been postponed.

Last week, we told you about plans for a new Ahsoka trailer to be released during Disney's Essence Fest event. It was officially confirmed beforehand that fresh footage was heading our way, making it all the more surprising when the weekend came and went and we got...nothing.

Bespin Bulletin (via SFFGazette.com) has since shared an explanation, revealing that issues with Twitter were the main reason Disney and Lucasfilm delayed the teaser.

As you may have heard, the latest round of changes made by Elon Musk in order to further monetize the platform saw the app become near-unusable, with the number of Tweets non-paying users could see drastically limited. Crashes were commonplace and it seems Disney decided it wasn't worth dropping a trailer for one of its most highly anticipated upcoming Star Wars TV shows amid the chaos.

We don't currently know what the Ahsoka footage shown to those actually at the event contained. A press release only mentioned the debut of a "sneak peek," and as of now, we have no idea when this footage will be released (Twitter's issues haven't entirely been fixed).

Set after the fall of the Empire, Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.

In addition to Rosario Dawson in the title role, the series stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant as Huyang, Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn, and Eman Esfandi appearing as Ezra Bridger.

Ahsoka was written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Directors include Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa.

Ahsoka will launch exclusively on Disney+ on August 23.

@dracula - The Boba Fett debacle wasn't that much of a shock. But I thought for sure they would go hard with Obi-Wan. You get both Ewan and Hayden back and that's what they cam up with? It damn near seems like sabotage at this point. Destroy the old and make way for the new. That's the only way I can describe so many bonehead choices made on that show.

Oh, Elon. You big, beautiful, apartheid emerald idiot.

Remember that time some random guy on Twitter created a fake “Eli Lilly” Twitter account, paid $8 for a blue checkmark, and tweeted “We are excited to announce insulin is now free”? And the real Eli Lilly company’s stock dropped by 4% and lost $15 billion?

Feels like a cop-out answer. Twitter isn't the only social media platform out there (youtube, facebook, instagram?) and even with whatever issues twitter has they still could have posted it there.

@AscendedExtra - You actually could not post on Twitter that day, not consistently at least. It was entirely hit or miss. Twitter isn't nearly as important as people think it is in most areas, but for entertainment news it's actually extremely important, which is why screwing up the site has such a ripple effect

@OmegaDaGrodd - is this why Disney didn't drop the trailer?

@AscendedExtra - I agree. That's a cop out. They are making Elon the easy scapegoat for their own incompetence.

Anybody who believes this Twitter excuse is gullible.....and probably wore masks thinking it would actually stop Covid.

@AscendedExtra - Couldn't agree more. Seems like a blind jab at Twitter just because ragging on Elon and Twitter seems to be the trend of the week. Last I checked, highly anticipated trailers do better on YouTube than Twitter.

...couldn't they just post it on Threads, or Mastodon, or Vero ?

Uuuuggh, where's MySpace when you need it ?!

"It's Twitter's fault that Disney+ relies so much on Twitter to market their content" is the epitome of reaching for reasons to blame Elon for everything wrong in your life.
OmegaDaGrodd
OmegaDaGrodd - 7/7/2023, 3:38 PM
@OrgasmicPotatoe -

It is in fact Twitter's fault that Twitter couldn't be relied on for one of the main things Twitter has become popular for: the ability to get millions of eyeballs on something all at once. Sucks it isn't as good as it used to be
OrgasmicPotatoe
OrgasmicPotatoe - 7/7/2023, 3:51 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - If they could not have relied on it, they wouldn't have that problem in the first place. This happened because of their over reliance on Twitter.

It's also not like no one would have seen it otherwise. YouTube, Facebook, Instagram are all clear of the issues Twitter is facing right now.

They're just desperate to blame the person with a target on his back rather than themselves. Usual Hollywood bullshit.

@OrgasmicPotatoe -

"If they could not have relied on it, they wouldn't have that problem in the first place. This happened because of their over reliance on Twitter."

I'm going to assume based on this statement that you haven't worked in major marketing in at least 20 years

It is 2023, every major global brand relies on social media sites with trending options. It is an inherently foolish business practice to bypass one of the largest marketing tools and screw up a marketing plan

This is just basic marketing logic
OrgasmicPotatoe
OrgasmicPotatoe - 7/7/2023, 4:32 PM
@OmegaDaGrodd - Yes, it is the current year, and they do rely on social media sites. But not putting all your eggs in one basket and going "whoopsie" when said basket fails is also basic marketing logic.

But the thing is, they didn't even do that, they just pretended to, in order to blame Big Bad Musk.

They have other options, they just CHOSE not to use them. Don't worry, they'll release the damn trailer eventually, Twitter or not, and people will see it anyway. But that bullshit excuse that 'Twitter isn't working quite like it used to' is really just that, an excuse, and anyone dumb enough to bite the 'Elon Bad' bait will no doubt believe it.
