ANDOR Gets A Spoilery New Gallery Of Stills Following Recent News Of Release Date Delay

While we couldn't help but be impressed by the latest trailer for Andor, it did somewhat overshadow the disappointing news that the series is now premiering later than expected. Read on for details...

Yesterday, Disney+ released a new trailer for Andor that really makes the show look nothing short of essential viewing. It was certainly a big upgrade from that understated Star Wars Celebration teaser, but hidden among the press release was a very disappointing change to the Rogue One spinoff's premiere date.

While the plan had been for the first two episodes of the 12-part series to arrive on August 31, we're now getting a three-part premiere a few weeks later on September 21.

There's no explanation for the delay, though it may be telling that this comes after Disney+ Day and D23. Both events will give Lucasfilm the chance to promote Andor one final time ahead of its premiere, an opportunity they wouldn't have had if it dropped at the end of this month as planned.

With this disappointing update comes a revealing new batch of stills (via SFFGazette.com) that highlight a number of key moments from the new trailer, including the surprise return of Forest Whitaker as Saw Gerrera. Even five years before the events of Rogue One, it looks like he's losing his marbles. Elsewhere, we see Cassian in an Imperial uniform, Death Troopers, and some intriguing new locations.

Andor explores a new perspective from the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey to discover the difference he can make. The series brings forward the tale of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how people and planets became involved.

It’s an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue where Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a rebel hero.

Diego Luna returns as Cassian Andor and is joined by cast members Genevieve O’Reilly, Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller and Fiona Shaw. The executive producers are Kathleen Kennedy, Tony Gilroy, Sanne Wohlenberg, Diego Luna and Michelle Rejwan. Tony Gilroy is also the creator and showrunner.

I'm still baffled as to what this show will contribute to the overall lore that Rogue One didn't? Did anyone care how he met K2SO? I would have rather had a Mace Windu series on how he survived and have him be the one who saved Grogu and a bunch of Younglings during Order 66 and have him have been Cere's (Star Wars Jedi) Master back in the day. And then have Cere (Deborah Wilson) have been the one to hide Grogu and then seek out Cal Kestis and any other surviving Jedi because Mace requested her to do so.

"Shaw, who plays a character named Maarva, spoke with Empire about the upcoming series telling them, “Tony [Gilroy] has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world. Our world is exploding in different places right now, people’s rights are disappearing, and Andor reflects that. [In the show] the Empire is taking over, and it feels like the same thing is happening in reality, too,” she explained."

"Fiona Shaw Describes New Star Wars Series ‘Andor’ As “Great, Scurrilous Take On The Trumpian World,” Says Showrunner Created “A Whole New Morality”

Andor actress Fiona Shaw made it abundantly clear that the upcoming Star Wars series will be a political commentary on Donald Trump rather than a Star Wars adventure.

Shaw, who plays a character named Maarva, spoke with Empire about the upcoming series telling them, “Tony [Gilroy] has written a great, scurrilous [take] on the Trumpian world.”

“Our world is exploding in different places right now, people’s rights are disappearing, and Andor reflects that. [In the show] the Empire is taking over, and it feels like the same thing is happening in reality, too,” she explained.

Shaw later praised Gilroy for implementing real world politics into Star Wars, “I was impressed by Tony’s social-realist intentions.”

She then revealed that Gilroy has created a “whole new morality” and put it into the show. She said, “He’s created a whole new morality. It’s very deep and humane – there is grief, mourning, hope, fear. It’s not just primary colours here.”

"As for Gilroy, he previously indicated the show would be contradicting previously established Star Wars canon.

He told Vanity Fair back in May, “There are certain events that happen in these five years that are important and need to be paid attention to. There are certain people, characters that are legacy characters, that the audience, the passionate audience, really feels that they have an understanding of and know.”

“In some cases, they’re right. And in some cases, what we’re saying is, ‘What you know, what you’ve been told, what’s on Wookieepedia, what you’ve been telling each other…is really all wrong,” he then relayed."

If the producers, writers and actors don't care about canon or the story then I won't either. I still have Lucas's Star Wars and they can't take that away from me.
