OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Is "Pretty Sure" He'll Reprise STAR WARS Role But Is Unsure About Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has shared a big update about his Star Wars future, explaining why he's "pretty sure" the door is open to him playing the Jedi Master again in some way, shape, or form.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was once going to be a movie, but with Disney keen to bolster its streaming offerings, it transformed into a six-part TV series.

Despite some divisive elements, the show was a hit and successfully filled in the gap between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Lucasfilm even found a way to give us an Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader rematch, leading to that now-iconic scene where we see what lies beneath the Sith Lord's helmet.

With another 10 years between that battle and Ben's demise on the Death Star, plenty of Star Wars fans are optimistic a second season could happen which fills in more of the gaps and perhaps revisits the Jedi Master's rivalry with Maul.

Talking to LADbible (via SFFGazette.com), Ewan McGregor admitted he's yet to hear from the studio about any Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 plans.

"The truth is I've talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I'm not lying about this now," he explained. "I don't know. There's been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, 'Let's do another one.' Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it's out and people like it, which I'm very, very pleased about."

Thankfully, McGregor is leaving the door open to an eventual return as the character, even if a second batch of episodes isn't on the cards right now. It may just end up hinging on where there's room for the character and in which time period future movies and TV shows take place.

"I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I'm sure we will. I'm pretty sure, you know," the actor teased. "I've got a few years yet before I'm the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there's time to tell more stories in there."

Last August, Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow confirmed McGregor has been pushing for a second season since the moment cameras stopped rolling on the Disney+ series.

"[As] Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two," the filmmaker recalls. "There’s another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don’t think it’s off the board. It is a 'never say never' situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series."

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+ and arrives on 4K SteelBook on April 30.

I don't care if it's Season 2 or another film, but I want to see him play the role again.

I kinda wanna see a S2 introduce A'Sharad Hett, who then shows up in the threequel trilogy. Another trilogy of Skywalker Saga movies is about as certain as McGregor appearing as Kenobi again.

As someone who liked the show overall , i am honestly ok with it not getting another season.

The bridge story of getting Obi Wan from how he was from the end of Ep 3 to the beginning of Ep 4 was told effectively imo (though not without its flaws)…

I don’t think there’s really any other story to tell as of now with the character in that time period or any other (maybe a Western-esque one set on Tattooine as he gets closer to Alec Guinness’s age but even im unsure about that).

I wouldn’t mind seeing expansions on elements it introduced such as The Path or even Reva (who i personally thought was alright) though…

However Obi Wan himself should be left alone as he is now imo.

@TheVisionary25 - the Path was an interesting subject. Wouldn't mind seeing the underground railroad of the Star Wars universe get explored more either

I did very much enjoy the show. It wasn’t perfect certainly but they did well with it.

Another season would be great. Or a film. Either way. I’d like to see it be dated closer to when Ben meets Ezra. An older, wiser Jedi master who’s learned how to communion well with Qui-Gon and Yoda.

@Gmoney84 - seeing that meeting and final duel with Maul from Kenobi's perspective would be really cool to see. Knowing live-action though, it's probably gonna change some things.

@bkmeijer1 - I’d love to see that too, age up Kenobi for a post credit scene of Ezra and Maul. After the Maul scene, Qui-Gon appears and tells him he has one last lesson to teach him, although it’s not shown, it’s the force ghost lesson.

@bkmeijer1 - it would but hope they don’t do it

The duel and episode is good as it is.

I hope we do get to see him again. I’d love to see Cal Kestis meet him at least once, set before the Jedi 3 game, of course. I want Vader to think he’s dead for sure, nobody could have survived it situation.

First season was f*ckin terrible,so hopefully it doesn't happen, make something that people want to actually watch.

I wonder if this story will appear on here, don't know how true it is.

@supermanrex - Credit also to other gentlemen with discriminating tastes such as @marvel72. S1 is a one-and-done. You can't pay me enough to watch any of it again.

@GeneralZod - The disguise to sneak Leia out under his robe.
That bit where they have to get past that red barrier, all they had to do is going round it, it wasn't actually stopping anyone getting pass.
Surviving lightsabres going through you.

Absolute Shite.
