OBI-WAN KENOBI Star Ewan McGregor Is "Pretty Sure" He'll Reprise STAR WARS Role But Is Unsure About Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has shared a big update about his Star Wars future, explaining why he's "pretty sure" the door is open to him playing the Jedi Master again in some way, shape, or form.

Obi-Wan Kenobi was once going to be a movie, but with Disney keen to bolster its streaming offerings, it transformed into a six-part TV series.

Despite some divisive elements, the show was a hit and successfully filled in the gap between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Lucasfilm even found a way to give us an Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader rematch, leading to that now-iconic scene where we see what lies beneath the Sith Lord's helmet.

With another 10 years between that battle and Ben's demise on the Death Star, plenty of Star Wars fans are optimistic a second season could happen which fills in more of the gaps and perhaps revisits the Jedi Master's rivalry with Maul.

Talking to LADbible (via SFFGazette.com), Ewan McGregor admitted he's yet to hear from the studio about any Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 plans.

"The truth is I've talked about having to cover for doing the Obi-Wan season for years, I had to lie about that and I'm not lying about this now," he explained. "I don't know. There's been no phone call to me from Lucasfilm, or Disney saying, 'Let's do another one.' Obi-Wan was made as a limited series and it's out and people like it, which I'm very, very pleased about."

Thankfully, McGregor is leaving the door open to an eventual return as the character, even if a second batch of episodes isn't on the cards right now. It may just end up hinging on where there's room for the character and in which time period future movies and TV shows take place.

"I love doing it. I hope we get a chance to do another one and I'm sure we will. I'm pretty sure, you know," the actor teased. "I've got a few years yet before I'm the same age as Alec Guinness was in A New Hope. So there's time to tell more stories in there."

Last August, Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow confirmed McGregor has been pushing for a second season since the moment cameras stopped rolling on the Disney+ series.

"[As] Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two," the filmmaker recalls. "There’s another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don’t think it’s off the board. It is a 'never say never' situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series."

Obi-Wan Kenobi is now streaming on Disney+ and arrives on 4K SteelBook on April 30.
