STAR WARS: AHSOKA Season 2 Rumored To Feature Hayden Christensen's Return As Anakin Skywalker

Hayden Christensen had a memorable role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in Ahsoka's first season and a new rumour suggests the actor will return to the Star Wars franchise in the show's second season...

It was last month when we first learned of plans for The Mandalorian & Grogu, a new Star Wars movie directed by Jon Favreau. We still don't know what that means for the Disney+ TV series (some believe season 4 will happen in the interim), but the press release also confirmed plans for Ahsoka season 2.

That's since been officially announced with a piece of concept art teasing Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren's quest to discover what Baylan Skoll is up to on Peridea. While that showed them standing atop the statue of the Mortis Gods, when we last saw the heroes, the Force Ghost of Anakin Skywalker was watching over them.

In Ahsoka, Darth Vader reunited with his former Padawan in the World Between Worlds, with Hayden Christensen later appearing as a hologram of The Clone Wars-era Anakin for a training session; that final tease, however, seemed to suggest he will be key to what comes next, specifically in regards to the mysterious Mortis Gods.

Now, a new rumour from scooper Daniel Richtman (first shared on SFFGazette.com) claims that Christensen will indeed return in Ahsoka season 2. No further details were provided.

We'd bet on Anakin playing a much bigger role in the show when it returns as he could quite easily serve as a guide to his former Padawan, particularly as he has a history with the Mortis Gods which, once explored, could take the franchise to some wild new places.

One popular theory online suggests the reason we never saw Anakin's Force Ghost in the sequel trilogy is that he was resurrected on Peridea. That may sound nuts, but when you start thinking of the spin-off potential of Vader in protecting another Galaxy, Lucasfilm may be giving it some serious consideration.

A November 2023 interview saw Filoni dodge the many fan theories surrounding Anakin's return in the World Between Worlds, though he did at least confirm the conflicted Jedi is there with Ahsoka and Sabine on Peridea.

"Anakin...of course he’s there with her," the Star Wars franchise's CCO said. "He’s always been there with her, but she just couldn’t see it. She couldn’t feel it. She didn’t know. She had isolated herself and made herself alone because she was afraid."

"He has done a great deal to alleviate that fear in her. And so there’s a moment. I think he’s proud of her in the end. He sees that she’s going to be a better mentor," Filoni continued. "I debate Force ghosts with people all the time. To me, what they are mainly is inspiration. You have people in your life that I’m sure have inspired you. And you feel that all the time. You feel that when you need it."

Ahsoka season 2 doesn't have a confirmed premiere date but is officially in development. We know the show will return before Dave Filoni's planned Star Wars movie, though, and that likely puts it on course for a 2025/2026 debut on Disney+.

I mean, that's definitely what was set up at the end of the first season so it'd be pretty weird not to follow through with that

I'm sure there's a video out there where filoni talks about force ghosts in OT where luke hears obi wan on Death star run, see him faintly in empire and he looks fukly solid in jedi plus qui gonn's appearance at end of kenobi solidified fact that jedis force ghosts are always there

Not going to lie, the idea of a resurrected Anakin sounds both outlandish and awesome. It would reinforce why Anakin was always the true Chosen One and why he was always different. But it would lead to more questions and problems than answers and solutions.

Ok, this is basically confirmed. The only card disney has to get people to tune into these terrible shows is the idea a legacy character will show up. And post season 1, there's no reason it isn't anakin.

I hope they explore a What If…? scenario of an Anakin who never turned to the dark side, and maybe even explore how the hell child-murderer Vader got a free-pass into Jedi heaven as a ghost. He really did get off easy for doing the bare minimum of killing Sidious while the guy was torturing his son. It would be cool to see whether his ghost form was tormented by guilt.

Yoda, Quigon and Obiwan were shown to have been trained on how to be a force ghost. Since we never saw it happen with Anakin, I’ve always thought that would be something to be explored at some point.

The idea of Anakin being resurrected, wow. That’s kinda out there and could def open up a lot of interesting stories. Not sure I buy that yet, we’ll have to wait and see.

All the complaining about legacy characters only reinforces the notion that the sequel trilogy characters suck, don’t have much depth and aren’t a draw for the GA.

Lastly, I barely consider Luke to be a Jedi, he’s more just force sensitive and lightly trained. Same goes for Ezra, but Rey is 100% not a Jedi, not in the slightest. She’s just force sensitive, with the smallest pinch of training. A true Jedi by tradition is trained as a youngling for decades. Hell Anakin barely makes the cut by that definition, at least he was very young and had extensive training for an extended period of time.

I will die on that hill

@MuadDib - the force ghost thing could be explored in Obi-wan Kenobi season 2, where Kenobi learns from Qui-Gon.

There might be a chance for Kenobi season 2, since Hayden is coming back for one series, why not both series.

@Timerider - Yeah that was alway my thought too. Obi-wan learns from Quigons ghost, interested to see who Vader learns from.
