OBI-WAN KENOBI Composer Natalie Holt Weighs In On The Chances Of An Eventual Season 2

Obi-Wan Kenobi composer Natalie Holt (Loki) has talked more about creating music for Darth Vader and shares her thoughts on the possibility of the Disney+ series getting a second season. Check it out!

It's been weeks since Obi-Wan Kenobi ended on Disney+, but fans are already anxious to return to Ben Kenobi's corner of this Galaxy Far, Far Away. While the six-part limited series told a satisfying story, there's still room to catch up with the character prior to his fateful meeting with Luke Skywalker in A New Hope. It's also no secret that Ewan McGregor wants to reprise the role.

During a recent interview with StarWarsNews.net (via SFFGazette.com), Obi-Wan Kenobi composer Natalie Holt was asked if she's hoping to return for more episodes, and it definitely sounds like director Deborah Chow isn't sold on the idea.

"I don’t know. I’d love to, but obviously, I spoke to Deborah and she very much feels like it’s sort of a completed story," Holt, who will return to score Loki season 2, explained. "I think Ewan just loves playing the character, and Deborah was saying ‘He’s so in love with being Obi, he wants to do it again.’ I really enjoyed it and loved the team there."

In the same interview, Holt was asked about writing music for Darth Vader. It was then that she elaborated on previous comments about Lucasfilm not having permission to use John Williams' "The Imperial March" until the legendary composer also decided to join the Obi-Wan Kenobi team (he created the Jedi Master's theme).

"We didn’t know if John [Williams] was gonna approve the use of his themes when I first got the project, so we had like a month or so where Deborah was like ‘I don’t want to get attached to the idea of using these heritage themes because we haven’t been told we can use them yet, so I think we should do our own thing,'" she reveals. "And then John watched the series and agreed, he was like ‘I wanna write Benny a theme!’ So he was on board, and because he was on board, he allowed us to use his themes in episode 6."

"Deborah wanted to build up to the use of those themes. She felt like Vader wasn’t Vader yet, he’s this fury, raged version of Vader," Holt adds. "He hasn’t controlled his anger at all, he’s still a bit Anakin. And then when in episode 6 he’s like ‘You didn’t kill Anakin, I did’, then you hear the Imperial March. It’s paid off through the whole series at that point. That was Deborah Chow’s idea."

The full interview is worth a read, but there are plenty of interesting details here. While fans remain disappointed that a season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi hasn't been announced yet, there's clearly a lot of interest, and we find it hard to believe Lucasfilm will ignore that (especially at a time when the studio is still struggling to make movies set in this Galaxy).
