We got a first look at some Superman-centric footage from Naomi during DC FanDome back in October, and EW has now released some new promo stills for the upcoming CW series, one of which reveals a surprising Hawkman/Hawkgirl connection.

The titular teen heroine (Kaci Walfall) is going to have a mentor in the Ava DuVernay-produced show: Dee (Alexander Wraith), a tattoo parlor owner who, as Naomi soon learns, is actually from the planet Thanagar.

"He's kind of like her Mr. Miyagi," says Walfall. "He really believes in her more than she can believe in herself. Although he doesn't have all the answers, he teaches her more and more about how to control herself."

Ava DuVernay teamed with Arrow writer and co-exec producer Jill Blankenship to write and exec produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero tale of the same name from writers Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and artist Jamal Campbell.

The comic follows Naomi McDuffie, a teenage superhero from an alternate Earth with energy-based powers who discovers that she was sent to the Prime Universe to be preserved from Zumbado, the destructive conqueror of her home planet. The show is expected to focus on "a teen girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to uncover its origins, and what she discovers will challenge everything we believe about our heroes."

Naomi also stars Cranston Johnson (Filthy Rich, P-Valley) and newcomer Camila Moreno. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes are also on board as producers. No premiere date has been announced, but the show is expected to hit our screens in 2022.
