POWERPUFF Casts Robyn Lively As Sara Bellum; Tom Kenny To Return As Narrator

Another casting addition for The CW's upcoming live-action Powerpuff Girls sequel here, as Twin Peaks and Teen Witch actress Robyn Lively is set to play friend of the Utonium family, Sara Bellum

Robyn Lively (Teen Witch, Twin Peaks) has joined the cast of The CW's Powerpuff as Sara Bellum, while Tom Kenny is set to reprise his animated series role as the Narrator.

In the cartoon, Sara Bellum was the somewhat inappropriate (let's just say we never saw her face) mayor's assistant who was presented as the typical buxom secretary type, but it sounds like the character will be given a much-needed update for her live-action debut.

Lively's take on Ms. Bellum is described as "a warm and witty career woman who has a complicated romantic history with Drake. Always a friend to the Powerpuff Girls, she has remained close to them since childhood."

Kenny, meanwhile, will return as the voice of the Narrator from the 1998 animated series and 2016 revival.

Powerpuff will star Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Dove Cameron (Descendants) and Yana Perrault (Jagged Little Pill) as Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup Utonium, respectively. Donald Faison will play Professor Utonium, and Nicholas Podanny is on board as Mojo Jojo Jr.

The show will actually serve as a sequel to the cartoon, catching up with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup as "disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crimefighting. Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever?"

Written by Diablo Cody and Heather Regnier, the Powerpuff pilot is being produced by Berlanti Productions and Vita Vera Films in association with Warner Bros. Television. Cody and Mars will executive produce with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Erika Kennair is also on board as producer.

The show recently commenced production (check out some set photos here). No premiere date has been set.

@LittleSween - I've loved Tom Kenny since Mr. Show with Bob and Dave, which is also is when I discovered the brilliance of Bob Odenkirk.

I want Tom Kenny to also play the Mayor of Townsville. He doesn't get enough live action work.

Tom Kenny is a real one. Not only was he the voice of my childhood, but he was also just seems like a really nice guy and he was in the "Tonight, Tonight" music video from the smashing pumpkins.

Tom Kenny? Between this, the costumes, the showrunner and the logo, I’m really moving in the direction that it’s going to be much more tongue in cheek that the synopsis implies.
