Variety confirms that Chloe Bennet has left Powerpuff ahead of planned reshoots. A pilot was shot earlier this year with the intention for it to begin airing on The CW this fall, but the decision was made to instead redevelop the show (The CW CEO Mark Pedowitz called that pilot episode "a miss").
The script eventually leaked online, and to call the response overwhelmingly negative would probably be an understatement. While changes are clearly going to be made, it's hard not to wonder whether the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum has decided to just get off this sinking ship before it's too late!
The trade notes that, "According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, studio Warner Bros. Television wanted to extend Bennet’s option as they reworked the pilot, but scheduling conflicts forced her to exit instead." Now, a new Blossom will be cast starting this fall.
Dove Cameron remains attached as Bubbles, while Yana Perrault is going to return as Buttercup.
Meanwhile, talks are said to be ongoing for Donald Faison (Professor Drake Utonium), Nicholas Podany (Mojo Jojo/Joseph "Jojo" Mondel Jr.), and Robyn Lively (Sara Bellum) to also come back.
Powerpuff was announced last August, and despite those changes, is still expected to follow the pint-sized superheroes as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting. Bennet's departure is definitely a huge blow to the series, and it's unclear what she's busy with. Unfortunately, it probably won't be a return as Quake in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
