In December, Jon Goldwater, CEO of Archie Comics participated in a Reddit AMA. During the chat Goldwater coyly said Afterlife With Archie could become a television series or a movie, but an interview from October with the comic's writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa reveals the real plan.

CBR: Roberto, is there anything else folks show know at this point about "Riverdale"?

Nothing, except that we're really, really excited -- and that if, god willing, this works out the way we all want it to work out, every Halloween we'll be doing an "Afterlife" episode of "Riverdale."

Currently, Arrow and The Flash showrunner, Greg Berlanti, is working on a television show based on characters from Archie Comics. It is tentatively titled Riverdale and is being developed for Fox. It will be a one-hour drama. If it goes well, you can expect a zombie-filled episode during Halloween every year. Neat!

AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE MAGAZINE #1 - “Escape From Riverdale”—This is how the end of the world begins… Harvey Award-winning writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Eisner-winning artist Francesco Francavilla take Archie and the gang where they’ve never been before—to the grave and back! A horrific accident sets off a series of grim events and Sabrina the Teenage Witch must try to repair the unspeakable evil her spell has unleashed. Gasp in horror as Riverdale faces an impending zombie Arch-pocalypse in the first issue of the magazine-size edition of the hugely successful, award-winning AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE series, featuring all new special features.

Script: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Vicente Alcazar
Art: Francesco Francavilla, Jack Morelli, Robert Hack,
Vicente Alcazar, Jim Mooney & Gray Morrow

Same. Though that's gonna change for me when the Waid/Staples series rolls around. Definitely going to check that out.

Interesting! I like that idea. I'm surprised there hasn't been an Archie show sooner.

I dunno why more shows don't do gimmicky out-of-continuity Halloween episodes after the success The Simpsons has had doing it. If nothing else, it'll get people to tune in who don't watch the show regularly.

If this is successful maybe Marvel would consider doing a Patsy Walker series.

Just in time for her to join the Avengers as Hellcat for Infinity War.

This show will fail Just because of the title! Look at "Mockingbird Lane"! The pilot honestly had potential, but the title ruined it! Should've just went with " The Munster"! This one should really reconsider! "Archie" or a variation would sell it and people would immediately know what or who its about. Riverdale is just random to the general audience.
