Last night, we got our first piece of major casting news for Venom 3, with Ted Lasso actress Juno Temple set to star in an undisclosed leading role. Now, a new rumor is claiming that she'll be joined by a very familiar face.
According to insider Daniel Richtman (via Patreon), Owen Wilson will also appear in the Sony Pictures threequel. Though he doesn't know for certain, he believes there's a chance the Paint actor could be playing his Loki character, Mobius M. Mobius.
Could this be a sign that Sony Pictures' SPUMC (are they still going with that acronym?) and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are finally going to connect? Mobius is a TVA agent, after all, and would be in a unique position to travel between both universes.
Last time we saw Mobius, he was standing alongside the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's post-credits scene watching Kang Variant Victor Timely's (Jonathan Majors) show.
Venom 3 will be directed by Kelly Marcel, who was a writer/producer on the first two films. Plot details are virtually non-existent, but star Tom Hardy previously shared an Instagram post teasing Eddie Brock's "last ride," which would seem to suggest that this is will be the actor's final time in the role.
Surely that means a face-off with Spider-Man is on the cards... right?
Eddie/Venom did appear in one of Spider-Man: No Way Home's post-credits scenes, with a piece of the symbiote remaining behind in The MCU when Brock was zapped back to his own universe. This led to speculation that a confrontation might be imminent, but it's best not to draw any conclusions when it comes to Sony's "SPUMC!"
Let There Be Carnage ended with Cletus Kasady's (Woody Harrelson) apparent death (though that doesn't mean Carnage won't return), and Detective Pat Mulligan (Stephen Graham) seemingly being taken over by another alien symbiote, possibly setting up the debut of Toxin in this third movie.
