Variety reveals that Clark Backo, best known for starring in Letterkenny and The Changeling, has joined Tom Hardy in Sony Pictures' Venom 3.
Unfortunately, character details are being kept under wraps so we currently have no idea who the actress will play in the Marvel threequel. Still, Backo is an exciting addition to an already impressive ensemble.
Backo most recently starred as Emma opposite LaKeith Stanfield on Apple TV+ limited series The Changeling, a series which was created and executive produced by Venom 3 director Kelly Marcel. The filmmaker also served as showrunner on the drama which has a 74% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Marcel wrote Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage but steps into the director's chair for this third instalment.
You may also remember Backo from Supernatural (she was also briefly linked to the short-lived spin-off series Wayward Sisters after appearing in a backdoor pilot), The Handmaid's Tale, and Designated Survivor. In terms of movie roles, she's appeared in I Want You Back and Seven in Heaven. Venom 3 is by far her biggest role, however, and we're intrigued to see whether she's playing a character from the comic books.
The actress is repped by Fatmata Kamara, Linden Entertainment, The Lede Company and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
Shortly before Venom 3 was announced, Hardy shared some insights into what he's hoping to see from a third instalment.
"These things [usually] come in threes. If there's going to be a new one - and they depend heavily on the success of each individual one, so you can't count on them ever happening again - every one has got to be as if it was the last one."
"But I think it's really important, if you go into something, thinking that one, two and three are the same...the same story, the same film. So that you don't surprise yourself by being caught out by suddenly having to do a third from nowhere. There's got to be some continuity into a third and fourth and fifth, and if somebody says 'no', that's fine. Let it go, and you move on to something else."
Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) and Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) have both nabbed lead roles in the threequel, though there's still no word on who either of them is playing. As well as returning as Eddie Brock/Venom, Hardy co-wrote Venom 3's story with Marcel before she penned the screenplay.
Produced by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, and Hutch Parker, Venom 3 is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on November 8, 2024.
