Entertainment Weekly, as part of their Comic-Con preview issue, has shared a brand new look at Ruben Fleischer's upcoming Venom, featuring a wicked new photo of the titular antihero played by Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy.

While speaking with EW, Hardy shared a few intriguing details about what excited him most when signing on for the fan-favorite role. “As far as Marvel characters, I have to say for me, Venom looks the coolest." He admits with a laugh before adding, "That sounds a bit shallow! But I appreciate that he has a kind of brazen swagger and a zero foxtrot attitude.” He continues on to explain how he approached the task of differentiating the down on his luck Eddie Brock from the raging monster within. “It’s a bit like Ren and Stimpy, you know?," he jokes before he delves deeper into his actual mindset, "They have different sounds. I always saw Venom as sounding like a James Brown lounge lizard, and Eddie Brock is kind of…” — he switches to an aw-shucks American accent — “I don’t know, an everyday kind of guy. But he’s inherited this massive ego, this beast.” And that beast is unlike any superhero, in the loosest sense of the term, to have ever graced the silver screen with morals that are questionable at best. "There’s that biting-off-heads issue, which is not what you would expect from, say, Captain America taking down a crook.

Fleischer (Zombieland) joins him to promise a comic book movie that will fully embrace the character's violent tendencies as well as the horror he tends to leave in his wake. “We talked a lot about a werewolf and what it is when you get infected or bitten by a werewolf.” He adds, “Usually a human gets imbued with powers or an alien comes from outer space and has to figure out how to live on our Earth. But this is really about a relationship between two people who have to work together to create this hybrid symbiotic relationship.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

Venom features:
Director: Ruben Fleischer
Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom
Riz Ahmed in an undisclosed role
Michelle Williams in an undisclosed role
Jenny Slate in an undisclosed role
Reid Scott in an undisclosed role
Scott Haze in an undisclosed role
Woody Harrelson in an undisclosed role

@NOVAtheSUPA - The only dislike that I have is that it's supposedly apary from the MCU other than that i still look forward to it.

@NOVAtheSUPA - I mean what's even the point of venom without the symbiote being abandoned by Peter?

More importantly the spider logo and look make 0 sense without spiderman...

@ftf530 - Actually THAT spider logo would make zero sense without Spider-Woman, it was her symbol the symbiote copied during Secret Wars.

At the very least, this film should be a guilty pleasure.

@Pantherpool - True, the only thing lacking from Venom's design is a white spider symbiote, but I can live without it if the film is good. Seems like they are trying to keep Spider-Man out until MCU finishes Homecoming 3, then it's game on afterwards.

@mastakilla39 - I do think they will be doing the white symbol on the chest, it just wont be a spider shape, but the white veins...maybe making a heart shape mess in the centre.

@Pantherpool - If they could somehow get this in the MCU, just have Venom get jealous of Spidey when Eddie moves back to NY. He gets so bitter that Spider-Man seems like the real hero and getting attention while he’s just called a murder that he develops his hatred for him but also at first tries to emulate him by having the white on him form a spider symbol. Just a thought.

Not bad, Sony. Now just confirm that VENOM will actually be in the movie for more than 5 minutes and the fans will come running!

Tom Holland would be nice too!

@xfan320 - we know at the very least he’ll be in more than one scene. Since the end trailer shot and this shot are different. That’s a relief at least

Not THAT is Venom. It's like the character looks way too perfect for Marvel to not at least consider to have him apart of the MCU.
