VENOM Smiles For The Camera In An Awesome New Photo From The Upcoming Tom Hardy-Starrer

The fall movie season is packed to the brim with some of the biggest films of the year, and none bigger than Sony's eagerly-awaited Spider-Man spinoff Venom, which early tracking suggests could break some major box office records come this October.

As part of their fall movie preview, USA Today has shared a wicked new photo from the upcoming movie and also some interesting comments from director Ruben Fleischer, who takes a minute to tease the symbiotic relationship between Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and the monster within.

In the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing, he's the real Hyde. He'll rip somebody's head off and eat their brains. There’s this forbidden-fruit quality of this guy who will just do whatever he wants.

They got rid of the chest-spider because it doesn't have Spidey's influence but what about the eye shape?
ManThing

@Nebula - I wish they'd left on the spider and then explained it later. Or at least referenced Spider-Man somehow.

@Nebula - big jelly like alien requires eyes.

Spider-chest piece would only be required to get back at his mum in an act of rebellion for forcing his life down the path she wanted.

I have a feeling this movie will be at least just fine, but he looks great. Very accurate look which is more than I expect from Sony.

@Pantherpool - hell yeah. Now that looks promising. Plus who doesn't love Hemsworth?! I feel I'm gonna be laughing at his character the entire film even though he may be some kind of killer.

Even though it's not the popular opinion, I think that a lot of people are forgetting that Venom was birthed without the involvement of Spider-Man within the ultimate comics. In fact I believe he didn't get the symbol on his chest until after he absorbed Spider-Man's energy.

Seeing that the MCU follows the ultimate comics (via Avengers etc.) it wouldn't be too difficult to connect the two fourther down the line..."if" possible.

Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 8/22/2018, 2:07 PM
@TheRationalNerd - Well, the MCU generally borrows the best elements of the Ultimates stuff, not the worst. I know a lot of people love the Ultimate Spidey run (the first hundred and fifty or so issues I have in a longbox somewhere from when I was dedicated in reading month to month), but... I've really cooled on it since then.

Love Bagley and always will, but the 616 Pete and his rogues are just so goddamn classic and better. Obviously, necessity being the mother of innovation and all, I don't bear any grudge against the no-Spidey-origin for Venom. In theory, it can definitely work (even if it loses my favorite dynamic of the symbiote as Peter's jilted ex). But I'm just not seeing any reason to think they've made it work in this particular movie's case.

(I love Mark Bagley so much I can never remember how to spell his name.)

I've been collecting comics since the 80's, I think I know who Mark Baggely is...

TheRationalNerd
TheRationalNerd - 8/22/2018, 2:41 PM
@Spock0Clock - Very great respects for the original 616 route. After TASM films I just wanted to see 616 Goblin make his appearance on screen. (I prefer that version over the ultimate) However, in some cases I don't mind cherry picking what 616 or ultimate influences they want for their characters. If we just sit back and look at Spider-man homecoming there were infinite things that strayed away from the 616 comics. If done with respect and doors are left open for things to work down the future I have no concerns. Keeping an open mind for this film whatever happens happens but it's got me interested.
MrDandy
MrDandy - 8/22/2018, 4:40 PM
@TheRationalNerd - MCU doesn't follow Ultimates....it borrows from lots of different incarnations and sources. In fact I'd say there are more 616 influences than anything else.

MrDandy - 8/22/2018, 4:40 PM
@TheRationalNerd - Also Ultimate Venom sort of sucks.

We've seen it already but I do like how they've stayed close to the design of the eyes.

His fangs are always on point too.

It's crazy how time flies. I look back and it was in February with the vague teaser, then April before IW came out and there he was in all his drool-tongue slippery and big self and now it'll be out in 1 month and half.

“In the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde thing, he's the real Hyde. He'll rip somebody's head off and eat their brains. There’s this forbidden-fruit quality of this guy who will just do whatever he wants.”

Someone clearly never read the book. I sure don't remember Mr. Hyde ripping heads off and eating brains. "Forbidden fruit"? That's another bad analogy. The hell? The hype for this movie is as bad as Venom's look and dialogue. I guess if you have nothing good to say about a movie, just say stuff that doesn't make any sense. They should just put this turd in the wind straight to DVD.

I like how he has red and blue lighting on him in that screenshot, It's reminiscent of Venom from the 90's cartoon.
