Sony Pictures has released over twenty ultra hi-resolution stills from their upcoming blockbuster, Venom, which stars Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy in the title role.

While reviews aren't expected until sometime next week, the Ruben Fleischer-directed comic book movie could well turn out to be one of this fall's biggest blockbusters as it takes aim at a potentially record-breaking $55 million to $85 million opening weekend.

Of course, whether or not it'll have legs through the coming weeks is something that has yet-to-be-determined by the reception from critics and fans.

Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) and director Ruben Fleischer discuss a scene on the set of Sony Pictures' VENOM.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. Here's a scene we've seen teased in the trailers as he battles some Life Foundation goons in his apartment.

Reid Scott in an undisclosed role, Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in an intriguing new shot from Sony Pictures' VENOM. It's unclear what's happening here, but it seems like this is where Brock comes to get tested after merging with the symbiote.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. It seems that his MRI machine unsurprisingly didn't go so well as he's seen here battle for control of his own body.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. It looks like he'll need to escape the Life Foundation after coming in contact with the symbiote.

Golden Globe-nominee and Primetime Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed stars in Sony Pictures' VENOM as Carlton Drake, the shady founder of the Life Foundation. He'll be bonding with his own symbiote, Riot, at some point in the film.

Primetime Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed (Carlton Drake) and Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) star in VENOM. It seems that this scene will take place shortly before Brock bonds with the symbiote.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. Brock makes a startling discovery and we can see some symbiote at the bottom of the photo, so it's probably safe to say he's discovered that the Life Foundation is conducting dangerous experiments with human test subjects.

4x Academy Award-nominee Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) and Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) star in VENOM. Here we see Weying and Brock sharing a laugh during one of the film's lighter moments.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) and Primetime Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed (Carlton Drake) star in VENOM. Brock's investigation into the Life Foundation will lead him to question Drake, which obviously won't go well for the reporter.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. If you zoom in close enough, you'll be able to spot some well-placed Easter Eggs in his journal.

4x Academy Award-nominee Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) stars in VENOM. While everyone else seems to be running away, Weying is running straight into the fire, which is probably a symbiote outbreak.

Jenny Slate in an undisclosed role and Primetime Emmy-winner Riz Ahmed as Carlton Drake in Sony Pictures' VENOM. Here we see the pair either conducting an experiment or making an unsettling discovery.

4x Academy Award-nominee Michelle Williams as Anne Weying and Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock in Sony Pictures' VENOM. It looks like Weying is warning Brock of the dangers hidden within the Life Foundation.

Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy (Eddie Brock) stars in VENOM. Based on his outfit, we can probably assume that this scene takes place shortly before he meets with Anne Weying (Michelle Williams).

4x Academy Award-nominee Michelle Williams (Anne Weying) stars in VENOM. It looks like she's probably on the phone with Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy).

While he may not be sporting his trademark logo, everything else about Venom's (Tom Hardy) appearance looks pretty aces.

After deciding to leave him out of the teaser trailer, the second trailer rectified that error by unleashing the beastly Venom (Tom Hardy) in all his glory.

One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.

I hope it's good. I hope Tom Holland's Spidey gets to fight Tom Hardy's Venom. I want these good things. If it sucks, well I'll have fun laughing at it in the theatre. Good times for all!

@SpideyPuffsMJ - I hope that too.

I also worry that, selfishly, if this movie bombs...then we lose Tom Hardy's interest in another CBM for a while. I obviously don't know if he would decline another one...but if this one does very poorly, wonder what his thought process would be if Marvel offered him Wolverine down the line(just a random, quick suggestion).

GOOD LORD. I mean, i ain't complaining but is this comic book movie-pics day?

I have MoviePass so it won't cost me a dime to go see this movie. I'm still going to skip it because Sony needs to be sent a message. Even if this movie is good, they're going to keep cranking out turds like Black-Cat and Silver Sable. We need to let them know that no one wants their B-grade garbage.

@HAILHYDRA - doesn't movie pass only allow certain movies now??

@ThorArms - Yeah, they rotate movies each day. Pretty much every movie is on there at some point though.

So many pictures so little time.

I predict we might get a timejump montage like in Spider-Man 2 showing how Eddie acclimates to Venom while keeping distance from his girlfriend and then he begins to start to see Venom's way of things, leading to dialogues such as “this power is not completely awful” from the trailer.

I do want to see the movie, but the publicity tour is wearing me thin progressively more and more. I don't think they've been advertising the movie in the best way; though they have continued to garner interest/curiosity either way, so good on them.

I'm noticing Michelle Williams rocking A LOT of BLACK CLOTHING in the pics, could she possibly already have bonded with a Symbiote in the film?

That would be an interesting twist in the narrative. Calling it now!

Guessing this will get some knives thrown at if from critics.
But
I could see many RT Reviews giving it the lovely 2.5/4 or 3/5 and still clicking Fresh based solely on Hardy’s performance and some elements of the Venom/Brock relationship.

Personally I can’t stand the 2.5/4 or 3/5 or even the 2.5/5 scores that pop up on RT and still get fresh and then the same critic gives another film the same 2.5/4 but clicks Rotten.

I cannot see any scenario where this movie is deemed "good"

My biggest issue is that the CGI doesn't look good, and I mean in a way where nothing looks real when venom or riot are showed on screen. Infinity war had enough realism and top notch CGI where I believed most things were real with a few small exceptions. Any time the Symbiote is on screen it just looks so rubbery and fake to me.
