We've yet to see a single good video game movie (sorry Warcraft and Assassin's Creed), but could Just Cause buck the trend? Well, Deadline has revealed today that Aquaman himself Jason Momoa (Justice League) has signed up to take on the lead role of Rico Rodriguez, the Agency operative who will be getting himself into all manner of crazy action set pieces if the games are any indication.

John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) has penned the screenplay for director Brad Peyton (San Andreas). He's currently working on Rampage - another video game movie - but teamed up with Momoa for Netflix series Frontier. Just Cause plot details are being kept under wraps, but the trade adds that it will, "deal with Rico’s crisis of conscience while on a mission."

While this is far from the biggest or most well-known video game franchise, it definitely has a lot of cinematic potential. Studios clearly have a lot of faith in Momoa as a leading man following Justice League and Aquaman, and it will be interesting to see how he fares here. What do you guys think?

Starring Jason Momoa and directed by San Andrea's Brad Peyton, yeeeeeah no this isn't going to buck the trend.

@Elayem - Yeah, probably not. Momoa actually isn't bad under proper direction and with decent script, but Peyton ain't the guy to get the best out of him.

Gotta stop using open world type games for movie ideas. Use more straight forward action games like Gears of War or Doom...O wait don't use Doom...In fact just stay away from videogame adaptations its just not their time yet. Right now we live in the age of comic book movies

Interesting. We'll have to see how Rampage plays out, if that is good or atleast decent, then there may be hope for Just Cause. I think they can have fun with that. It's such a crazy game. Lol.
