There were several contenders for Game of the Year at The Game Awards this year, but the prized trophy went home with the Larian Studios Baldur's Gate 3 production team.

The game also saw Neil Newbon take home the award for Best Performance, the award for Best Community Support, Best RPG, Best Multiplayer Game, and the Player's Voice award.

The Game Awards honor the best achievements in the video game industry each year. Despite being relatively new, they are recognized as one of the most famous events in the gaming industry and are usually referred to as the "Oscars of video games."

Canadian video game writer and television personality Geoff Keighley of GameTrailers TV and Spike Video Game Awards fame, founded the Game Awards in 2014.

Fans and members of the media vote for the winners, with nominees chosen by a panel of professionals and previous winners. Publishers and game developers take advantage of the opportunity to reveal new, highly anticipated titles and trailers, transforming it into a high-profile media circus.

A lot of online gamers are referring to the awards show as the new E3.

Check out the whole list of winners below and let us know in the comments whether you agree with the selections.

No surprising wins really. Atleast, for the games part. I have no clue what's going on with the esports side and why there are so many awards for that

I couldn't play a game like this. I find it to slow. I'm more of a Far Cry and Assassins Creed gamer.

Can you play Baldur's Gate 3 without playing the first two? They're not available for PlayStation.

@marvel72 - You can tell that nomination for best sound design is purely because they checked some DEI box with the deaf level.

If Yuri Lowenthal couldn't win for Best Performance, it should've gone to Cameron Monaghan for Cal Kestis in the Jedi games.
