EDITORIAL: Five Superhero Video Games I Want To See

With Superhero video games becoming more and more popular, there are several superheroes that we would like to see be brought over to the interactive medium. Check out my picks of the superhero games I want to see be made.

Video games are all the rage these days, aren't day? From Mario to Call of Duty, video games are breaking entertainment records year by year. And with that success, comic companies including Marvel and DC are now branching out into the medium and are having Superhero games published every year by developers (Rocksteady, Beenox), even if they are sometimes not very good. In this editorial, I am going to the list five (in no particular order) superhero video games I would like to see made. Check out my full list down below!

5. More Games Based On Graphic Novels And Story Arcs!

We have had a couple of games like this, including the Batman Arkham games and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and those games were incredible. These games show enormous potential already and I'm hoping for more and more of them ; games based on graphic novels and story arcs that offer the full video game experience without differing from the source material too much. Imagine a game based on Planet Hulk? Or the Sinestro Corps War? Or maybe The Phoenix Saga? These games based on these fantastic stories could bring new readers in if done right. Here's an example, beat one of these graphic novel/story arc based games and you unlock a full digital copy. Not the worst idea I think. Let's move on to some actual games...

4. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3!

The first two games in the Marvel Ultimate Alliance series were absolutely fantastic in my honest opinion. The way you got to explore all regions of the Marvel universe was truly a comic and gaming nerd's dream come true. There are several fantastic Marvel story arcs the developers can adpat for the threequel's story. I hope for more multiplayer functions, more RPG elements (I'm a real sucker for that stuff), more characters from the Marvel Universe to play as (Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man please), and an awesome main villain or villains(Galactus, Loki or Thanos please).

3. Batman: Arkham 3!

We've read reports that the next Arkham game will be a prequel, where the Justice League will be involved. But, I don't want that! I first want full closure to Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy. A game that expands on the free-roam aspects of Arkham City and still maintains the fantastic story of the previous two games. In my opinion, for a third game's story to work, we need to have the big events of the last game (Joker's Death) to really drive the story. We could possibly have a tale where Batman is accused of murdering the Joker and his hunted like the criminals The Dark Knight beats all the time. But, that is all speculation and wishful thinking of course. The main thing I am hoping for is that Rocksteady gives us a perfect Batman video game trilogy!

2. A Truly Fantastic Avengers Or Justice League Game!

If we're not going to get a Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, then an Avengers or Justice League game will do rightly! And no, that Avengers: Battle for Earth crap doesn't count. We have seen games based on these two teams before, but of course, they failed and never went anywhere except for the used games lot. Wheter you're a DC nut or Marvel nut, we would all like to see either a truly exceptional JLA game or Avengers game. And with the success of The Avengers movie, a good video game based on the licence would sell well. And, if individually, the heroes of these teams can't do well, a game where they are part of a group would be suitable.

1. A Good Superman Game!

Since the Nintendo Entertainment System, Superman has been a pretty big loser in the video game market. Including such terrible catastrophic failures as Superman 64, Superman Returns and plenty, plenty more. I just wish for a true Superman game that does the Man of Steel justice. The closest thing to a "good" Superman game was the recent LEGO Batman 2: Super Heroes, where of course, Superman was just a side character. Let's hope Rocksteady can bring the character's disastrous video game history to a close, when they hopefully make a good Superman game; and if not them, another developer with talented designers would be great. My dream Superman game would be a game where you can be the ass-kicking son of a gun that Superman is! Where we fight his greatest adversaries and are enthralled by both the story and action experience. Let's hope in the near future, we can get such an experience.

So, do you agree with these choices? Post your thoughts on this editorial of mine down below.

Love the article! Isn't Rocksteady making a Superman game? If so, it'll be great!

And if you could post the original picture you used for JLA/Avengers section, you would be my best friend.

DC vs Marvel with the engine of Marvel vs Capcom 3.

A Superman game with some awesome in air combat with an new engine designed just for that is totally the way to go. I am not sure how much a company is willing to spend to develop a new gaming engine for a Superman title though. And that could be why we have not seen a epic Superman game come down the pipes yet.

Great editorial. Agree with every one. For Superman, this was my idea.

Some how, Superman is under the red son, darkseid or brainiac is the reason for it. So the first mission, you are powerless. As the game progresses and you complete missions, the sun slowly starts to turn yellow. This is your level of achievement. The more you complete the game, the more powerful you become. On the last level the Sun is fully restored and you have to fight the main mastermind behind this, Darkseid of Brainiac. I think that would be a good system to have superman actually have a challenge.

If Man of Steel becomes a huge success, I am sure Rocksteady will do something.

My opinions...

5. Good Lord, no. Arkham Asylum wasn't based on an existing story and MUA 12 was terrible. Trying to force a game into an existing structure is the same problem movie games have- plus we know the endings.

4. YESYESYES! But only if their going to go back to the style of the first (deeper RPG elements, ORIGINAL story, costume changes with power bonuses, etc.)

3. Of course! No continuation, though- we already know it will be a prequel and will feature the JLA

4. Yes- though MUA pretty much covers the Avengers experience...JL Heroes was actually fun, but too short and character selection was too limited. It's RPG/ability building was actually way better than MUA imo

5. Oh, Hell Yeah!

I wasn't a massive fan of Marvel Ultimate Alliance but I like your list. I'd be ok with Arkham City being the last story in that particular arch, I thought it concluded quite well. And if you want a decent Justice League game, you said it yourself, Rocksteady are probably making one.

@deadpunisher, did you ever play the punisher game from a few years back? It's awesome especially if you put in the non edited code

Arkham 3 would be so incredible if they finally put it in an open world Gotham and gave u the ability to drive the batmobile. They already left enough hints in Arkham City that the story could move to in a sequel (Hush). Even use villians we havnt seen yet like Black Mask, Man bat, etc. But good article. I'm liking everyone's choices

There'll never be a good Superman game! NEVER! Superman is damn near invulnerable which makes his games either really boring, really retarded. In every game of his I get so pissed off when I would get killed by a random thug that shoots me with normal bullets!! UGH!! The only way to make it right would be to pit Supes against only henchmen AND bosses that could ACTUALLY whoop his ass or kill him! Oh, and make the flying like ACE Combat!!

But we shall see.

Rocksteady is making a JL game, that'll be the best Superman game ever even if we don't play as him. I for one like the idea of the prequel.

@LVITIKUZ, Superman was so invulnerable in Lego Batman 2 it was funny. I like the way they exploited his limitations, though.

I think that the Batman: Arkham series is the most successful VG franchise that WB games has put out. I think they could leverage that model to make a game featuring Green Arrow. It would be similar to Assassin's Creed, where there is open world game-play and challenges (both online and individual). Heck, they could even license the character to be featured in a version of Assassin's Creed. I think it would be a hit.
