Video games are all the rage these days, aren't day? From Mario to Call of Duty, video games are breaking entertainment records year by year. And with that success, comic companies including Marvel and DC are now branching out into the medium and are having Superhero games published every year by developers (Rocksteady, Beenox), even if they are sometimes not very good. In this editorial, I am going to the list five (in no particular order) superhero video games I would like to see made. Check out my full list down below!
5. More Games Based On Graphic Novels And Story Arcs! We have had a couple of games like this, including the
Batman Arkham games and
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and those games were incredible. These games show enormous potential already and I'm hoping for more and more of them ; games based on graphic novels and story arcs that offer the full video game experience without differing from the source material too much. Imagine a game based on
Planet Hulk? Or the
Sinestro Corps War? Or maybe
The Phoenix Saga? These games based on these fantastic stories could bring new readers in if done right. Here's an example, beat one of these graphic novel/story arc based games and you unlock a full digital copy. Not the worst idea I think. Let's move on to some actual games...
4. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3! The first two games in the
Marvel Ultimate Alliance series were absolutely fantastic in my honest opinion. The way you got to explore all regions of the Marvel universe was truly a comic and gaming nerd's dream come true. There are several fantastic Marvel story arcs the developers can adpat for the threequel's story. I hope for more multiplayer functions, more RPG elements (I'm a real sucker for that stuff), more characters from the Marvel Universe to play as (Guardians of the Galaxy and Ant-Man please), and an awesome main villain or villains(Galactus, Loki or Thanos please).
3. Batman: Arkham 3! We've read reports that the next Arkham game will be a prequel, where the Justice League will be involved. But, I don't want that! I first want full closure to Rocksteady's Arkham trilogy. A game that expands on the free-roam aspects of
Arkham City and still maintains the fantastic story of the previous two games. In my opinion, for a third game's story to work, we need to have the big events of the last game (Joker's Death) to really drive the story. We could possibly have a tale where Batman is accused of murdering the Joker and his hunted like the criminals The Dark Knight beats all the time. But, that is all speculation and wishful thinking of course. The main thing I am hoping for is that Rocksteady gives us a perfect Batman video game trilogy!
2. A Truly Fantastic Avengers Or Justice League Game! If we're not going to get a
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, then an
Avengers or
Justice League game will do rightly! And no, that
Avengers: Battle for Earth crap doesn't count. We have seen games based on these two teams before, but of course, they failed and never went anywhere except for the used games lot. Wheter you're a DC nut or Marvel nut, we would all like to see either a truly exceptional JLA game or Avengers game. And with the success of
The Avengers movie, a good video game based on the licence would sell well. And, if individually, the heroes of these teams can't do well, a game where they are part of a group would be suitable.
1. A Good Superman Game! Since the Nintendo Entertainment System, Superman has been a pretty big loser in the video game market. Including such terrible catastrophic failures as
Superman 64,
Superman Returns and plenty, plenty more. I just wish for a true Superman game that does the Man of Steel justice. The closest thing to a "good" Superman game was the recent
LEGO Batman 2: Super Heroes, where of course, Superman was just a side character. Let's hope Rocksteady can bring the character's disastrous video game history to a close, when they hopefully make a good Superman game; and if not them, another developer with talented designers would be great. My dream Superman game would be a game where you can be the ass-kicking son of a gun that Superman is! Where we fight his greatest adversaries and are enthralled by both the story and action experience. Let's hope in the near future, we can get such an experience.
