Fifth Resident Evil To Be A Prequel/Reboot For The Franchise; Also Gets An Official Title & Logo

It seems Resident Evil movies have gone the fans way. though not a complete reboot, the newly titled fifth installment will bring the movies back to the video game franchises horror routes. Plus Milla Jovovich is returning, but not as the main character.

Even though some fans of the video game franchise Resident Evil have not been to fond of the movie franchise sharing the same (and not much else), The Resident Evil movies have still proven to be a popular choice for movie goers since it's big screen debut. Starring Milla Jovovich as the character Alice, who would become a super powered evil fighter later in the franchise.

Now Bloody-Disgusting have gotten their hands on the films official logo and the official title. They also are reporting that the newly titled Resident Evil: Begins will be a Reboot/prequel set in 1998, before the events of the first film. This sure to be a highly liked idea by the video game and a good chunk of the movie community.

Not only did Sienna Guillory confirm she will be returning to the franchise as the character Jill Valentine, but BD also states that she will be the main character of the film. This will be the first time in the movie franchise that Alice will not be the main focus. Here is what BD had to say about the currently vaguely detailed plot:

For the first time in the series' history Alice will not be the main character. Instead Begins will follow Ms. Valentine as she finds herself in the midst of the major viral outbreak caused by Umbrella.

Another part of BD's report is that RE: BEGINS is likely to get its own video game, which will be the first time the franchise has based the game off the movie instead of Vise-Versa. They also had some minor details on the game:

Supposedly, the game will follow both Jill and Alice before the outbreak. As Jill, you'll be tasked with slowing the spreading of the T-virus and as Alice your goal will be to try to reveal Umbrella and the illegal work they've been doing in the underground Hive facility. Jill and Alice's paths never cross, well, not until the events in Apocalypse, so the game's essentially telling two very different stories.

Resident Evil: Begins hits theaters September 14, 2012, in 3-D.

Why is this release worded as if it were a video game and we were controlling the characters?

Also, that Family Guy clip gets me every time. I love Peter Grifin.

They're re-using the current actors? Aren't they kinda too old for the reboot? I mean, Wentworth Miller is about 39 years old. Chris Redfield was only 25 during the events of the first game, and Jill was 24 while Sienna is 36. Claire Redfield was about 19 years old in RE2 and Leon Kennedy was 21. Ali Larter is 35 and whoever they bring in to portray Leon is gonna look out of place if he looks younger than 35.

So you're gonna have a bunch of actors in their mid/late 30s for the first movie. By the end of the trilogy, they'll be into their mid/late 40s. Not a pretty picture at all.

And why isn't there a new director for the reboot? No offense to Anderson, but he kinda sucks as a writer/director. Surely, they can find a better director for the reboot, just like they can find better-suited actors, if only they'd actually try.......

Yeah we all know the franchise could have been a lot better but personally i really enjoyed afterlife and thought it was good 'brainless' (facepalms self) fun! The first one was also pretty good too imo. I'm looking foward to the sequel ... this however i dont believe to be true!

Dust off George A. Romero's script for the original and reboot this Paul Anderson piece of shite.

Give the original game some justice.

F*%king horrible idea! We as fans of the game and movies are already 4 movies deep into the story and now they want to reboot? Shite makes no sense at all. I say finish what you already started and THEN treat the source material right and reboot it. Not start a damn reboot in the middle of a almost complete story. Just another way for the team of Anderson/Jovovich to milk as much as possible from a great game and simple yet fantastic story. THUMBS DOWN SON!!!

It's obviously not going to be Romero's script. I wish.

We will see if they actually use the video game story line, it would be cool to have the Mansion in part 1 and the police station in part 2.

Did George A. Romero really write a script for Resident Evil?
Gutts81
Gutts81 - 4/1/2011, 11:14 PM
Well it looks to be legit. I went to the website and they have a article from way back in september with talk of this very reboot. Still a very bad idea imo. If we can get a proper RE movie with Jill,Chris,Barry and Wesker then i would welcome it. But considering we already have 4 movies(1 is good 2 was ok and 3 is just shite! and 4 being just watchable.)i think it would make more sense to finish what story we do have and then start from scratch.

maaaann, they're just going to use this "reboot" fad for their benefits. Alice is still in, it's still part of their lame ass story line, same director either directing or producing, and the freaking logo even looks the same. Not really a reboot. BUT..it sounds better.

Studio execs, producers, director: "I bet all the nerds out there will approve of our shit movies, if it were to be be rebooted...but..I'd hate to lose out fully on Mila. So..in all the interviews, just throw in the word 'REBOOT', that'll be 'jizzworthy'"

Yeah...lets get Romero please, and REALLY reboot this 'should be made for SySy' franchise.

Lawliet - 4/2/2011, 2:09 AM
Reboot it! or else I will!

its good to hear that Jill is now the main character (of course Chris too!)
but theres still a problem of that.. ALICE.. she's really not in the game.. get rid of her please! no offense to Milla but please! please!
Ok come on? they will bring back the Origins with the previews cast?.. yeah Sienna Guillory did a great Job as Jill in Apocalypse, Did you saw Jill at the End of Afterlife? (hopefully not coz its sucks in every way!) she's too old for me..?
As for the Director, I wish Anderson will not direct this prequel.. make it like Silent Hill movie! hopefully they will bring justice for this franchise! and I hope Capcom will participate this time..

and last.. hope they will make the location more creepier like Resident Evil (remake) not like zombie living on the desert in Extinction! [frick]!
