After weeks of not-so-subtle teases, NetherRealm Studios officially announced a new game in the Mortal Kombat series today, titled Mortal Kombat X. After Amazon leaked that the game would arrive on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, Warner Bros. Interactive issued this official press release, confirming the platforms and revealing a few more details on the game. Expect more to come at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in LA next week, but here's an extract from the press release:

“Mortal Kombat is our acclaimed, world-renowned franchise and we are now advancing the fighting genre with Mortal Kombat X,” said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “NetherRealm Studios is best in class at delivering games fans love and they are taking their iconic brand to the next level with Mortal Kombat X."

“Mortal Kombat has always been about over-the-top, visceral fighting and with Mortal Kombat X we wanted to utilize the power of new-gen consoles to give players our most intense game yet,” said Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios. “The team has worked hard to make sure Mortal Kombat X delivers everything fans expect along with new characters, new game modes and an all new graphics engine.”

Mortal Kombat X combines cinematic presentation with all new gameplay to deliver the most brutal Kombat experience ever, offering a new fully-connected experience that launches players into a persistent online contest where every fight matters in a global battle for supremacy. For the first time, Mortal Kombat X gives players the ability to choose from multiple variations of each character impacting both strategy and fighting style. Players step into an original story showcasing some of the game’s most prolific characters including Scorpion and Sub-Zero, while introducing new challengers that represent the forces of good and evil and tie the tale together.

For once can we get a trailer where Sub Zero is not always getting his ass whooped by Scorpion. I love playing as Sub Zero and Noob Saibot.

No Wii U?! Oh well, can't say I'm surprised after Arkham Origins (Wii U) not getting the DLCs and MK9 not being on the Wii U.

Damn sounds promising, MK9 was awesome. I'm sure this one will deliver the goods as well.

At this point it's news when a 3rd party game DOES come on the Wii U. If it's not Ubisoft, SEGA, or Capcom just don't even bother hoping.

Game looks beautifully brutal. Yeah, Subby got his ass kicked but he did put up a good fight and he'll be at the front of promotions with Scorpion regardless. Frankly I feel more bad about Liu Kang. He was originally the main protagonist of the games and he's become near irrelevant since Deadly Alliance.

Man that trailer looks so good. Why cant they get a movie like this?
Wiz verse is nice but the trailer would be better if it was just the instrumental.

Scorpion dominating as usual, I expect nothing less from my top main in Mortal Kombat (With Reptile being secondary). Loving his design, keep it classic yet respectfully updated for this new generation of gaming. If the trailer is anything to go by, environment weaponizing interaction looks like it is going to be a very promising mechanic within this upcoming game.

That scorpion suit would be the ultimate carnaval/halloween outfit. Someone make that happen!

Looks amazing but I doubt it'll look anything like this on any of the consoles

What's with the horrible music? What happened to actual score's? Adding rap to your video game does not make it cool, so stop it.
