We know Sub-Zero will have a prominent role in the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot, but what about Noob Saibot?
As any fan of the long-running video game series will be aware, Bi-Han - the original Sub-Zero - was resurrected as the shadowy ninja by Quan Chi after meeting his end in the first game, and the undead version of the character went on to become a fan-favourite fighter.
During an interview with Collider, Sub-Zero actor Joe Taslim (The Raid, The Night Comes For Us) strongly hinted that his take on the icy ninja would indeed become Noob Saibot at some point.
"It's not a secret that Quan Chi took the humanity inside of Bi-Han and turned him into Noob Saibot," said the actor, before suggesting that the "pitch black" side of his character would ultimately become more prominent.
It's far from confirmation, but we'd say there's a decent chance Noob Saibot will appear - even if it's just to set up a potential sequel.
In Mortal Kombat, MMA fighter Cole Young, accustomed to taking a beating for money, is unaware of his heritage—or why Outworld's Emperor Shang Tsung has sent his best warrior, Sub-Zero, an otherworldly Cryomancer, to hunt Cole down. Fearing for his family's safety, Cole goes in search of Sonya Blade at the direction of Jax, a Special Forces Major who bears the same strange dragon marking Cole was born with.
Soon, he finds himself at the temple of Lord Raiden, an Elder God and the protector of Earthrealm, who grants sanctuary to those who bear the mark. Here, Cole trains with experienced warriors Liu Kang, Kung Lao and rogue mercenary Kano, as he prepares to stand with Earth’s greatest champions against the enemies of Outworld in a high stakes battle for the universe. But will Cole be pushed hard enough to unlock his arcana—the immense power from within his soul—in time to save not only his family, but to stop Outworld once and for all?
Mortal Kombat is set for a simultaneous release in theaters and on HBO Max this April 12.
