@SuperDude001, was the first season actually realistic and grounded? You had Shang Tsung and Quan-Chi, who are both sorcerers, displaying their powers. Rayden, who is a god, using his lightning powers. Sub-Zero had his ice powers, Scorpion became a demon, Cyrax and Sektor were turned into cyborgs, not to mention all the stuff in Outworld.

It was very much grounded in science fiction and fantasy. I can't see anything in season 2 being any different from what they've already done.

I'm sorry but Liu Kang looks like a stupid, drunk bastard in that picture. This looks stupid.

@SuperDude-

"this looks like they're trying to go to a more closer to source now and I don't know if that'll work for me"

So let me get this straight, the fact they MIGHT actually base this on the SOURCE MATERIAL makes you unhappy?? REALLY??! Wow.

Anyway, this doesn't resemble the source material for MK at all, so you can be rest assured it won't be. Kung Lao AINT BALD and Liu Kang as a stupid, drunken bastard isn't from the games either.

I just don't understand how anyone can say basing it on the source material doesn't work for them. That makes absolutely ZERO sense to me. But if you're not a fan of Mortal Kombat, then that makes sense i suppose -_-

Each characters story felt different because well they all have different backgrounds, to me this looks like it doesn't change that effect at all, Kung Lao is in his time and state while liu kang is in his

Looks to me like with Kung Lao they are keeping him in his fantasy realm of being a monk in MK. Liu Kang though it seems like they might be going the "Rebirth" route by putting him more in the realistic world.

@jessepostal put up a good point.
jessepostal
jessepostal - 2/16/2013, 5:43 PM
@lp4, but what is the source material? It changed so much in every game.

jessepostal - 2/16/2013, 5:47 PM
I think they are gonna give liu kang the "not living up to his potential" doesn't know he's anything, acts like a loser typecast

@jessepostal- Well, I'd consider the GAMES to be the source material. And in the games, Liu Kang was just a peaceful monk from the Temple of Light.

Here it appears he's drunken and gets into bar-fights. That...would go against the games which in turn goes against the source material.

In every MK game known to mankind, Kung Lao had hair. Here he doesn't. Not a deal breaker for me though but just more of a minor nitpick. I SUPPOSE Kevin Tancharoen made Kung Lao bald to give him more of a real monk look. But again- just a minor nitpick.

I'm also not at all happy that we're getting yet again- MORE FOCUS ON LIU KANG.

If I'm not mistaken, the last 2 movies focused ENTIRELY on Liu Kang's story and history ie- his brother being murdered and his training at the Temple of Light and him being "the chosen one" (he actually said that to Shang Tsung during their final battle lol)

I didn't want anymore focus on Liu Kang for the simple fact he had ALL the focus and limelight from before.

I hope he is just a minor character this time.

@lp4, that's what I ment by my comment, but even as the games went on they changed liu and who he was and who he would become, there is a lot of different mythologies
LP4
LP4 - 2/16/2013, 6:01 PM
Not really. The games always kept the same basic premise on the guy- he was a simple monk from the temple of light. The most change they did was when they killed him off in...i think Deception. And he became a zombie. But that's it.

They never changed WHO HE WAS. His basic character always remained intact.

And especially after MK9 had essentially taken ALL the former games, or at least MK's 1-3 and combined all the different story elements into ONE story. I mean, MK9 was basically a reboot of the game franchise.

But nowhere in the game franchise was Liu Kang ever a drunkard or Kung Lao bald. I can live with those changes but they ARE changes nonetheless and pretending they aren't, is...well...living in denial :P

To me this looks like they are making a NEW story for Liu Kang. A new chapter in his life. So he starts out...not so perfect like he was in the games. This time, he's a zero who BECOMES the hero.

That seems like a pretty drastic change though because that in turn changes his entire origin story. But that's ok. Just an observation. Again though I dont' care for Liu Kang so this isn't a biggie for me. I could care less what they do to him. I personally hope they kill off his character. He's had enough focus

Not meaning his background more of who liu kang was, first game he's said to be non violent fisherman monk who is against killing(i always wondered why he had a weak fatality in the first game), to becoming violent, and a killer from the 2nd game on. His personality changed, As the games went on he became headstrong.

and i don't think kung lao is bald in that pic, i can see a hair line

@jessepostal- Um...it was confirmed that Kung Lao will be bald in the series. Tancharoen asked Dacascos (sp?) to wear a bald cap but he refused and instead chose to actually SHAVE his head due to his loyalty and devotion to the role. So major kudos to Dacascos (sp?) for his devotion by shaving his head. Major...confusion though for Tanchaoroen on shaving Kung Lao's head lol

Um...hair? lol

LP4
LP4 - 2/16/2013, 7:03 PM
@jesse- So you're saying that Tancharoen may be trying to fill in that gap where Liu Kang became more violent? That still isn't sticking to the source material because that gap is a mystery. It can be interpreted in any way, shape or form. :)

on my comp you can see what looks like to be really short hair, close shaven hair, or maybe its the sunlight shining so that you can see his hair line, He is tan while where his hair would be is pale.

haha i wasn't saying anything, just that over time and from game to game liu kang was a different person, and i just want him to be presented in a cool way no matter how far they take him :) and i cant wait to see where they take this next season

@LP4

how can u be sick of Liu Kang he is Mortal Kombat. its like having a Street Fighter movie that dont have Ryu in the movie. Oh wait they did that with Street Fighter Legend of Chun-Li lol.

it makes sense that Kung Lao dont have hair cause he is a monk. remember this series take place before the Mortal Kombat battle.
