The first Sonic The Hedgehog movie proved to be a surprise hit for Paramount Pictures (it currently holds the title of fifth highest-grossing video game movie in history), and a sequel is set to spin into theaters later this year.
A teaser trailer was released back in December giving us a first glimpse of Knuckles (Idris Elba), and to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the studio has now debuted three new character posters featuring the tough-as-nails echidna, Tails the fox (Colleen O'Shaughnessey), and the titular blue speedster (Ben Schwartz).
Check out the posters below along with the first trailer.
"After settling in Green Hills, Sonic is ready for more freedom, and Tom and Maddie agree to leave him home while they go on vacation. But, no sooner are they gone, when Dr. Robotnik comes back, this time with a new partner, Knuckles, in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations. Sonic teams up with his own sidekick, Tails, and together they embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands."
The cast will also feature returning human stars Jim Carrey (The Mask, Batman Forever), James Marsden (X-Men; Westworld), Tika Sumpter (Mixed-ish; Ride Along), and Natasha Rothwell (Wonder Woman 1984; Like a Boss), along with new addition Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds; S.W.A.T.)
Director Jeff Fowler returns to helm Sonic The Hedgehog 2, which is set for release on April 8, 2022.
