UNCHARTED Director Shawn Levy Offers Update; Confirms It Will Be His Next Movie

With several projects on his plate, fans have been wondering if director Shawn Levy will be prioritizing the video game adaptation. Thankfully, with a "very good" script, the film will be his next project.

News surrounding the Uncharted film adaptation has been scattered as of late, with many involved in the production stacked with conflicts. With star Tom Holland hard at work on Spider-Man: Far From Home, and director Shawn Levy overseeing Stranger Things until the end of the year, one has to wonder when development will be ramping up on the adventure film.

Over the past few years there have been different iterations passed around Hollywood, with Joe Carnahan's Rated R pitch being the closest to seeing the light of day. This was until Sony reworked it, with the more accessible pairing of Levy and Holland at the helm. Establishing how Sully and Drake became partners, the film will serve as a prequel to the Naughty Dog games.

As a director attached to several projects, it is a relief that Levy has now confirmed Uncharted as his next film. Furthermore, Levy has offered another update on the adaptation:

I mean, as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about.

Once Levy is finished with Stranger Things, and the main cast is rounded out, production would be expected to start before 2019 ends, making a 2020 release likely.

Are you excited for the non-Nathan Fillion led Uncharted movie?

Just have Nathan Fillon play adult Drake in the beginning and ending bookends, and have Tom Holland play young Drake in the flashbacks.

This movie doesn't need to happen. We already got the full Uncharted story in the games. It's just a cash-grab.

But we already got one. Unless they cast in Fillion here too.

I am still [frick]ing mad that Joe Carnahan spend a whole year to do research by playing the games reading the art books and wrote a script with an R rating in mind and he was the only person who said the wisest thing that would put any fan in ease''It's not Indiana Jones,Nathan Drake is a thief, that's what makes Uncharted so different''

Then SONY being the dumbasses they are they scrap Carnahan's script and give the directing job to Shawn Levy(I do like Real Steel but he hasn't done anything interesting after that) and they cast Tom Holland and decide to make it a prequel.

So far the only thing that gives me hope for a good videogame movie adaptation is the Metal Gear Solid one. At least Jordan Vogt-Roberts [frick]ing gets the material he is working for and it's also produced by Sony...GO [frick]ING FIGURE...

@Nicklander -

Oh man, that Carnahan version just sounds so good, shame we'll never get to see it.
He's a solid Director as well, I've really enjoyed Smokin'Aces, The A Team, The Grey and thought Stretch was good.

Excited for Metal Gear as well, at least Vogt ROberts knows what he's doing.

@SimplyAz - Yeah I honestly don't expect much from this so called prequel....the games themselves covered Nate and Sully's backstory pretty good.

I would be totally cool if the movie was one of the many adventures Nate Drake has been through the games mentioned tons of adventure Nate & Sully had.

We should have gotten a movie with Glenn Powell as Nathan Drake and Kurt Russell as Victor Sullivan

@Nicklander - even if he never actually makes the movie I just love listening to Vogt-Roberts talk about it.

Fillion should play him. Just like Ryan Reynolds with Deadpool someone shows how much it means to them and they fit the role give it to them. Sometimes that doesn’t workout like tyress GL stuff but Fillion is perfect for the role.

Though Fillion would be great I dont think he HAS to play Drake. But Tom Holland definitely should NOT.

I really hope this is good, I love those games. I like Holland a lot as Peter Parker but I still feel that he is miscast here. I'm sure he'll do a good job, but he doesn't fit the part at all in my opinion. Holding out hope that this ends up being good.

I like Tom but he is definitely not Drake. Brett Dalton should be Nate.
