News surrounding the
Uncharted film adaptation has been scattered as of late, with many involved in the production stacked with conflicts. With star Tom Holland hard at work on
Spider-Man: Far From Home, and director Shawn Levy overseeing
Stranger Things until the end of the year, one has to wonder when development will be ramping up on the adventure film.
Over the past few years there have been different iterations passed around Hollywood, with Joe Carnahan's Rated R pitch being the closest to seeing the light of day. This was until Sony reworked it, with the more accessible pairing of Levy and Holland at the helm. Establishing how Sully and Drake became partners, the film will serve as a prequel to the Naughty Dog games.
As a director attached to several projects, it is a relief that Levy has now confirmed
Uncharted as his next film. Furthermore, Levy has offered another update on the adaptation:
I mean, as of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about.
Once Levy is finished with
Stranger Things, and the main cast is rounded out, production would be expected to start before 2019 ends, making a 2020 release likely.
