Back in September of last year acclaimed
Wonder Woman writer Greg Rucka confirmed in an
interview with Comicosity what comic book readers had known since
time immemorial, that the Princess of Themyschira is a bisexual character. Now in recent years great strides have been made in the print medium of comics in regards to queer characters (admittedly with some ebbs and flows) but this has yet to be reflected in the big screen adaptations of these heroes.
Enter Gianna Collier-Pitts, who was a
GLAAD ambassador at
New York University - for she has started a petition on Change.org to have this characteristic of Diana shown in the much anticipated sequel to the smash hit
Wonder Woman set for release in 13th December 2019.
With
Wonder Woman giving us our first major solo superhero film led by a woman and a lot of that films lasting and strong impact coming from women and girls seeing themselves justly represented in this kind of film the question then comes - with Diana also being a member of the LGBTQ community why shouldn't the sequel engage with that audience as well?
As Collier-Pitts writes “
representation is power” and what is more characteristic of Wonder Woman than giving power to the powerless and spreading that Love is indeed Love.
Of course we've yet to have any information about what the Wonder Woman sequel will entail, it's currently being written by director Patty Jenkins, Geoff Johns and as recently reported Godzilla writer Dave Callaham but what do you think? Would you like to see this represented in Wonder Woman 2? Leave your comments below.
Wonder Woman 2 is currently slated to hit theaters on December 13, 2019 and will see Gal Gadot reprise her role as the titular heroine.
