Supergirl.
Catwoman.
Elektra.
The track record for female-led superhero films is far from stellar. Sure, characters like Black Widow and Gamora have had successful outings as part of an ensemble cast, but a film with a female superhero at the front and center has yet to strike oil. That may soon change. For many moviegoers, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman was the best thing in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As such, expectations for the solo, origin film for WB's Amazon Princess have ratcheted even higher. That may seem like a lot of pressure but help will arrive rather quickly. Diana Prince will soon be joined in the DCEU by Amber Herd's Mera. On the Marvel side of things, Evangeline Lilly's Wasp will co-anchor the Ant-Man sequel before Kevin Feige and co. roll the dice on Captain Marvel. Perhaps it's not R-rated features that are the future of superhero films but female-led pictures?
