Will American Idol contestant Katherine McPhee play Wonder Woman in the feature film?

Fox News cites reports that McPhee is being considered for the role in the Joss Whedon written and directed film.

A screenplay for the Joel Silver-produced movie is expected to be completed by year's end.

"McPhee, who's talked openly about her battle with bulimia, will appear on the cover of an upcoming issue of Shape magazine clad in a bathing suit," Fox says.

"The cover could prove she now has what it takes for the tight-fitting costumes the movie requires."

Other actresses linked to the role over the years: Sandra Bullock, Kate Beckinsale, Rebecca Romijn, Jessica Biel and Eliza Dushku.

"Bryce Dallas Howard, the daughter of director Ron Howard, was reportedly a favorite for the role, but she's since pooh-poohed those reports," Fox says.

"I don't how I'd look in that suit," Howard said.

No word yet from Whedon.
