Kevin Feige Feels WONDER WOMAN's Popularity And Box Office Success Can Only Be Good For CAPTAIN MARVEL

Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman will soon become Warner Bros.' most profitable DCEU film domestically, and Kevin Feige acknowledges that this is great news for Marvel Studios' first solo female adventure...

Though we have had female-led comic book movies in the past, none of them made any kind of impact at the box office and were generally lambasted by the majority of critics. This led some fans - and, more importantly, studio heads - to assume that the average fan just wasn't that receptive to a female superhero carrying her own movie, but then Wonder Woman came along and smashed that fallacy to pieces.

The critical and commercial success of Patty Jenkins' film will undoubtedly pave the way for a new generation of female-led CBMs, and Kevin Feige is very aware that Captain Marvel is going to reap the benefits next.

Here's what the Marvel Studios head honcho had to say during an interview with Mashable:

What it does do is go, 'Oh, thank God, because what the question would have been on this junket before that is, 'Do you think people want to see a female superhero movie? Do you think audiences are ready to go see a big ... Are you nervous about Captain Marvel being a big, the first female hero?' And I would always say no, because there hasn't been a good one in a long time.

There were, you know, 15 years ago, a bunch of bad ones. Did they fail because they were female lead movies? No. They failed because they were not good movies. I don't have to say that anymore. Thanks to Wonder Woman. Because it just blows that fallacy out of the water.

It's probably only a matter of time before we hear about more female-centric superhero flicks from both Marvel and Warner Bros., but what do you guys think they'll be? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

@PantherKing - Plus it will be GOOD and not an overrated borefest, with sporadic highly stylized fight scenes nearly ruined by incessant slow-mo closeups.

Rising tides raise all ships. I'm glad that Marvel and DC both see it this way. A good Comic book movie is good for all comic book movies.

@RancidBane - Hear hear! As a marvel guy I only mock DC movies because so many of them suck and I have no emotional investment in seeing my childhood heroes on screen, even in a bad movie. I want good superhero movies regardless of who makes them. the concept of competition between studios should not be a win lose thing. good movies from all of them so that when I retire I can have 150 hours of good movies to watch and a new one coming out every month.

@Goldboink - I grew up reading DC and the X-men. So I have a huge place in my heart for DC. However, i in no way want Marvel to fail. Keep pumping out great films that I can enjoy and force DC and Fox to raise their game. I think the DCEU is now in great hands with Johns and his crew so I'm excited to keep enjoying as many comic book films as the studios wanna pump out.

@Facade - it really is a shame that people have to make it one or the other. I want Warner, Disney, Fox, Sony, and any other property holding studio to do well. It keeps pumping more fun into my life and makes it more fun.
