Lynda Carter In Talks To Join WONDER WOMAN 2 Cast; More Details On The Sequel's Setting Revealed

Original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter has revealed that she's in talks to join the cast of Patty Jenkins' upcoming sequel and some additional details have also surfaced pointing to a unique 1980s setting.

As you no doubt already know, Lynda Carter played Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV series and the actress has now confirmed that she's in talks to join the cast of Patty Jenkins' upcoming big screen sequel starring Gal Gadot. During a chat with Megyn Kelly, Carter said she's had discussions with the filmmaker and it sounds like it's now down to her to decide what role the iconic actress could play.

"That is up to Patty Jenkins. I’ve been talking to her about it," she revealed. "She’s given me some hints about it and I guess it’s up to Warner Bros if they want to spend the money … It really is up to Patty, and if it works in an organic way it’ll be great fun and it’ll be wonderful to do." It sounds like an awesome cameo and seeing as Carter has shown up in Supergirl, it's hard to imagine the studio not being willing to sign her up, especially as her appearance would be appreciated by a lot of fans.

On a separate note, we've previously heard that Wonder Woman 2 will be a period piece but The Wrap elaborates on that by noting that Wonder Woman 2 will indeed see Diana Prince square off against the Soviet Union during the 1980s. The sequel is set to be released on December 13th, 2019 and with production set to start later this year, we'll hopefully start getting some official details fairly soon.

How about this, she plays Diana and Steve's daughter, they slept together in the first film, so what if after, Diana discovered she was pregnant, but because her daughter is not an amazon and is not the child of a god, she ages at a normal rate. It could also add a bit of tragedy to Diana, if while she lives on she, she has to witness her child die

@dracula - That's too Snyder-y for my liking

@dracula - Interesting idea. Well worth considering.

@BlindWedjat - I could give her more reason to stay out of the spot light, considering she is going to be in it during the cold War, but nobody knows about her in present day

@BlindWedjat - The only real problem I have with it is how it's clearly a retcon, because in Justice League she's still hung up about Steve (whereas if she had a daughter, you'd think that would have eclipsed or at least contextualized Steve as much more than a "what could have been").

Honestly, it just makes me really sad that the Highlander franchise is such a mess...

@Spock0Clock - I never understood why batman even brings up steve. Batman is such an odd character in the film.

@Spock0Clock - Thanks, they might as well give her something to do, since she is an actress. They could have made her Diana's mother, but they didnt, so why not her daughter

@dracula - I realize the gods are dead but i would make her Athena

@Toffee - Why not, she just a celebrity like Stan Lee, she can act, so they might as well give her something to do, and not just stand there for a quick joke. But they shouldnt give her too big of a role that she becomes a distraction. So they could do the daughter thing in the opening

@dracula - Based on her appearance in Supergirl, I'm not sure what Carter's chops are really like nowadays. I'm not a big fan of walk-on cameos that don't serve any other purpose, so if they can give her a real role, all the better.

On the other hand, it would be a minor disaster if Carter was given an emotional role and didn't land it.
CaptainElrond
CaptainElrond - 4/19/2018, 3:14 AM
@dracula - Well its not either or...I'm not saying not put her in the film or make her a bad cameo.

I just dislike that idea, i'm tired of the overbearing tragedy of characters constantly, killing steve and outliving her friends is enough.
dracula
dracula - 4/19/2018, 3:15 AM
@Toffee - That would be cool, but dont think it will happen, considering they made a point to say Ares killed all the gods

@Spock0Clock - I think I remember her appearing on Smallville as Chloe's sick mother for an episode, I think she pulled that off, not sure, havent seen it in a long time

@Toffee - Well we know it will have amazing visuals, considering the director just did a wrinkle in time, hopefully that movie was just a mistep and she can pull off new gods

Steve Trevor was the best thing in “Wonder Woman” and the worst thing about her modern portrayal, because they totally did not sell me on the idea that theirs was a passion that should be impossible to get over after 100 years. Nor does it make Wonder Woman seem especially empowered to be so hung up on literally the first man she ever met and knew for a week.
Spock0Clock
Spock0Clock - 4/19/2018, 5:28 AM
@Chewtoy - It's hard not to make the first Cap comparison. Peggy Carter watched the greatest man she'd ever known and a living legend go down in a plane crash and carried that flame the rest of her life. But she also still had a life. Apparently happily married, good family life, strong career, and all that.

It really does feel like Diana just stagnated until Snyder shoehorned her into the Justice League preamble.

And while I would buy someone getting hung up on a guy named Steve played by a guy named Chris for 100 years, it's not the Trevor/Pine variety that rings all that true.

"It’s up to Warner Bros if they want to spend the money"

Come on Lynda, we all love you, but you're probably not as expensive as Emma Stone of Jennifer Lawrence. I'm sure they can manage if they want you for a part, which I sincerely hope they do.

Now to get rid of Kristen Wiig somehow and get a real actress to play Cheetah. Charlize, if you can hear me…

I really just want a Wonder Woman movie set in the modern times of the DCEU. The Cold War setting really lowers my excitement about this sequel.

@TheUnworthyThor - Cold war was a scary time, maybe the message about fear or death (hades), or prehaps secrets.

Seems timely, especially considering how our trash President is afraid of Putin.

@TheUnworthyThor - I personally like that so far her films have been set in the past. It avoids the "why'd dosent this eh ask superman/other hero for help" problem.

Plus, assuming the do flashpoint for a soft reboot.
I don't have a lot of knowledge but I believe flash causes it to save his mother? Meaning it would be the 90s early 2000s he go to save her; altering the universe post that time.
Thus, the Wonder Woman films wouldn't be wiped out of continuity.

I was really hoping this would be set in the modern day since so far Wonder Woman's modern day movies (BvS and JL) havent been well received, and Patty could change that.

It could even have a Superman cameo, imagine Henry Cavill’s Superman directed properly by Patty Jenkins.

Oh well, I have faith in Patty’s choices.

@ELAYEM - I really think superman should get a new costume. Something a bit more complicated but brighter and iconic.
