Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have made no secret of the fact that they're big X-Men fans, and it sounds like they'd be interested in helming the planned reboot should the opportunity arise.

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have spoken about their love of the X-Men in the past, which has inevitably led to the pair being asked about the possibility of helming Marvel Studios' planned reboot during interviews.

We still don't know if The Russos have had any official conversations about the prospect of returning to The MCU, but they clearly remain intrigued by the notion of bringing the Children of the Atom to this shared world.

While speaking to AP Entertainment, the filmmakers were once again quizzed about the "rumor" that they might be in line to direct a new X-Men movie.

"One of my prized possessions is Incredible Hulk #181, which is the first appearance of Wolverine," Joe Russo responded. "It's an important part of my comic book collection. Wolverine being so essential to the X-Men, of course, that would be a fun project to work on and find a new way into it."

"But, I do think that that's probably something that Kevin Feige has rightfully put aside for a while to introduce some new characters to the world, and bring that back when it's ready," he added.

Kingsman star Taron Egerton confirmed that he'd met with Feige about possibly suiting-up as Logan, but it remains to be seen if anything comes of their discussion.

We still have no idea how Feige and co. plan to incorporate mutants into The MCU, or whether this mysterious X-Men project will be a movie or Disney+ series. Fans assumed Professor Xavier's (Sir Patrick Stewart) cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness might lay the groundwork for more mutant characters to debut, but it's looking increasingly likely that The Illuminati's involvement in the sequel really was little more than fan-service.

Even if The Russos do decide to work on another Marvel Studios project, the majority of fans appear to be hoping to see them take the helm of Secret Wars (which is rumored to be the next big MCU event).

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Joe and Anthony Russo take charge of the elusive X-Men reboot? Drop us a comment down below.

Don't make it a movie. This has great series potential with a wealth of characters.

@UniqNo - I think they should do both.

Have a trilogy of movies with the first two teams from the comics, and have a show run concurrently to that with a bunch of characters from later teams.

UniqNo - 7/4/2022, 10:44 AM
@bkmeijer1 - That could work. I feel that bringing them into the MCU is also going to cause alot of problems.

I'd propose they set it in their own universe, but then bring in newer/alternate versions of the characters they couldn't have interacted with when they were under FOX. It can be a soft reboot of the MCU if you will, making the most of the merger.

It would be easier to show the disparity of how mutants are more unwelcomed as compared to God's Super Soilders and enchanted beings. That's why i loved the X-men.

I feel if they brought them in now, it's not going to be so easy to sell the angle of the socioeconomic differences like in the comics and cartoons.

@UniqNo - I think they can still do it within the MCU though.

And it's definitely not gonna be easy, but I think that also makes it fun to watch. They're definitely gonna have to make so changes to make it all work, and I'm very interested to see them try.

@UniqNo - If they did a show, they'd focus on the students at the school, like Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, Synch, etc, with occasional cameos from the big names like Wolverine, Cyclops and Storm.

@UniqNo - What Mutant X tried to be, only better, as it has actual Marvel mutants.

@bkmeijer1 @comicfan100 - This where they're going to need to sign up a bunch of no names and lengthy contracts!

@UniqNo - Start with a movie starring the first five Xavier students and continue with a Xavier School Disney + Show.

Students and their different points of view. Mutants who are radicalized influenced by Magneto's speech, plans to attack and everything happening under the roof of the Mansion. Toad could be the protagonist.

@Repian - So much potential to tap into real world shit happening today, in the same way they did in the comics and most of it's related media. MCU has a phase 5 and 6 right there. It's good their taking their time with it. fingers crossed for the best. I just hope Disney don't drop the ball like they did with Start Wars since that aquisition, but i'm hopeful Feige is keeping both hands on the wheel.

@The1st - Yup. The gifted also dropped the ball there.. but that was prob down to budget constraints vs actual interested viewers.

@bkmeijer1 - They should do a show called "The Mutants", or "Xavier Institute", something like that. This should be on D+ a year or so before the first X-Men film releases.

Each episode should focus on a different X-Man and their origin. Episode 1 shows Xavier coming up with his Dream and starting a school.

Episode 2 is Cyclops and his time in an orphanage, his power manifesting for the 1st time, and his eventual meeting with Xavier.

Episode 3 is Storm living as a thief in Cairo. Or they could focus in on her being a "goddess" in Cairo.

You get the point.

But they can establish any characters they want this way. But each episode ends with them being lead to Xavier's school.

Then, the X-Men films can focus on a core group of 3 or 4 that are in all or most of the movies. Cyclops, Jean, Wolverine, and Storm, for example. Then, depending on what each movie is about and who the villain/threat is, they can fill out the rest of the team from characters that were introduced in the D+ show. People like Gambit. Colossus. Rogue. Nightcrawler. Anyone!

This way you have a revolving set of characters and it makes sense, rather than just jamming in characters willy nilly in roles that dont make sense, like Fox. Something similar to the Justice League Unlimited animated show.

And you can have recurring characters too, like Beast, who mostly stays at home doing research. And Forge, who works on the Blackbird. Characters that don't generally go out on missions unless it's all hands on deck or their particular skills call for it.

Doing it like this gives us an almost Avengers like set up, where we meet the characters before they all come together as a team in a movie. So there's no real need to introduce people on the actual X-Men movies.

I'm kind against the original 5 being the team in the movies. If they want to show the history of the X-Men, they could do a show called "First Class" and focus on that.

bkmeijer1 - 7/4/2022, 11:25 AM
@UniqNo - that's another reason I think they can make it work in the MCU too.

Even within the MCU, they have stuff set up similarly to the real world (unintentionally). The 5 year gap is a perfect stand-in for the pandemic and how that affected various people of class, color and whatever background.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 7/4/2022, 11:32 AM
@CorndogBurglar - I wouldn't mind it if they did those introductions in other projects. I think the X-Men are a long way off, so I can see them also introduce the future main characters somewhere else first too.

A show might just do the job as well too, although I'm not sure everyone from the general audience is gonna watch it. There's a risk involved that the first movie already starts with too many threads going.

As for Forge specifically, I really wanna see him show up ASAP.

@UniqNo - I think having them set in another universe would be unique and fun then after secret wars there’s the merge of the two universes and then we can see mutants treated as they were in the comics/movies as outcasts put out of place. It also has ties to politics which is what x-men has always been about. It just provides a unique opportunity and I honestly don’t know any other way marvel could introduce them now.

CorndogBurglar - 7/4/2022, 12:22 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, Forge is awesome. It's funny how different writers have handled him over the years in respects to his powers.

He's supposed to be able to build anything. But I remember in an X-Men comic where Forge, Jubilee, and Psylocke were on stuck on a Kree world and they were trying to be incognito. At one point a big piece of concrete started falling down on them and Forge just instantly built this big ass pneumatic piston and extended it to hold up the falling concrete lol. Like in a matter of seconds.

I don't think that's what they had in mind when they created Forge and said he could build anything lol.

@Antitrollpatrol - That's my concern aswell, but I believe Fiege has a deep love for that part of Marvel lore and I like the fact he's not ready to talk about it yet, showing he's taking his time. At least that's what I hope.

@UniqNo - Make X-Men,X-factor,X-Force and Excalibur movies and have a show called School For Gifted Youngsters or The New Mutants.

bkmeijer1 - 7/4/2022, 2:29 PM
@CorndogBurglar - don't know that particular comic, but I don't think that is what the creators had in mind. Does sound like a fun comic though

UniqNo - 7/4/2022, 2:40 PM
@marvel72 - School For Giftest Youngters is the perfect place to start overall I'd say. A better and more (accurate) story of First Class. Wolverine doesn't need to be added to the mix till a couple seasons on. To avoid becoming the face of the dam thing like the last time.

@CorndogBurglar - Cool idea for Storm for sure. But they should race swap her, there's nothing about her that says she has to be black. We need more Indian and Asian representation and this would be a great opportunity to make Storm an Indian-African orphan.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 7/5/2022, 1:57 PM
@Toblakai - Assuming this is a sarcastic comment, I'll just laugh.

Personally, no characters should be race swapped. And characters should have to only be played by people of their same culture.

If an actor looks like a character, and can act like the character, they can play the character. I don't care what country the actor is from originally. Or what their religion is. Or what their sexuality is. I don't even care what their gender is. As long as they are convincing as the character.
Toblakai
Toblakai - 7/5/2022, 3:10 PM
@CorndogBurglar - nope. Race swap everything, it's trendy and super duper creative and not at all racist.
