6 Wild LOGAN Story Predictions You Can Take To The Bank

Logan is 2017's first live-action superhero movie, but it already looks like it might be the best. What you'll find here are our craziest plot predictions based on spoilers, rumours, and lucky guesses...

2016 ended up being a hit and miss year for 20th Century Fox, with Deadpool a bigger than expected success and X-Men: Apocalypse a critical and commerical disappointment. With Fantastic Four flopping back in 2015, Logan is the only Marvel movie coming from the studio this year, and after a unique marketing campaign, it's clear that it stands a chance of being the best Wolverine story to date.

However, at this stage, there's also a lot we don't know about the movie! There are obviously lots of rumours and fan theories out there, and what you'll find here are my thoughts on at least six things we can expect to see happen in this highly anticipated release. With some, there's evidence that these could happen, and while others are pretty outlandish suggestions, I think you'll still enjoy them!

So, from surprise appearances to major deaths and even some hints at what might be to come in the future, click through the slideshow below for what I think is on the way in Logan next month...

6. X-23 Kills Charles Xavier

In the Logan trailers, we see Wolverine and X-23 standing over a freshly dug grave, but who are they burying? I'm tempted to say that it's Charles Xavier, though it's every bit of likely that it could be Caliban who dies after being taken by the Reavers, especially as all signs are pointing to the Professor being around for a good chunk of this movie. However, I still think that the powerful psychic will meet his maker, and when it does happen, it will be at the hands of Laura Kinney.

This is something the previews have alluded to as we see a seemingly out of control Xavier causing psychic chaos as those around him suffer and X-23 crawl toward him; could it be that she'll have to put him out of his misery for the greater good just as Wolverine once did with Jean Grey? It would make for an interesting parallel to the events of X-Men: The Last Stand and Charles' demise seems inevitable, especially as he's going to ultimately slow the two clawed mutants down far too much as they go on the run. For that reason, it adds
up that his story ends here.

5. Mister Sinister Makes An Appearance

Logan director James Mangold has made it clear that Mister Sinister won't appear in this movie, but should we believe him? Well, it's not exactly like he's going to confirm his presence, and while Zander Rice may be the lead bad guy here, the fact that Wolverine's DNA samples were originally retrieved by Essex Corp. has to mean something! Without a shadow of the doubt, I believe some sort of reference will be made to this iconic bad guy, but a physical appearance is also likely.

Even if it's only Rice reporting to a mysterious figure hidden in the shadows with a glowing red diamond glowing on his forehead, this would make for an incredible moment which does a great job of setting the stage for Sinister to reappear somewhere down the line. That could be in X-Force or even a future X-Men movie, but with Magneto clearly outstaying his welcome and Apocalypse now done with, Sinister taking on a Thanos-type role as the big bad of the X-Men Universe for the foreseeable future would be the right move.

4. A Flashback To The Fall Of The X-Men

Something has happened to the X-Men by the time Logan starts, and the movie is going to have to shed some light on that. Both they and the mutant race have vanished from the Earth, but why? Well, while it would be a lot of fun seeing Wolverine being tricked into slaughtering his teammates just like in the Old Man Logan comic book, I think it's far more likely that something along the lines of the Legacy Virus is responsible for their deaths (that could also be nicely tied into Mister Sinister).

Whether it's via those comic books Laura is carrying around with her or an actual flashback, expect this movie to reveal the fate of the X-Men and feature some high profile cameos along the lines of X-Men: Days of Future Past's surprise ending. It's here that I believe we'll finally get to see Wolverine's classic yellow and blue costume, a piece of fan service which is long overdue at this stage, especially if this truly is Hugh Jackman's final appearance as the iconic clawed mutant.

3. Cable Recruits X-23

One of our biggest questions about Logan has to be what the future holds in store for X-23. The timeline of these movies is such a convoluted mess, that we probably shouldn't put it past Fox to have an adult version of the character show up in the 90s set X-Men: Supernova (assuming that's actually happening as originally envisioned), but what if Cable shows up at the end of this movie to set up the events of X-Force and Deadpool 2?

Regardless of what happens to Wolverine, the time travelling mutant arriving to recruit X-23 to the cause makes sense, and she could almost take the place of Hope Summers as someone he raises to be a soldier. Time travel also means it would make sense for Laura to be a teenager/adult when we see her next, and the clawed mutant being part of the X-Force roster is a must and honestly feels like the best place for her moving forward. The problem with this point is that Cable seemingly hasn't been cast, but if those Pierce Brosnan rumours are correct, then this scene could have easily been shot by now.

2. The Rebirth Of The Mutant Race

Recent trailers and TV spots for Logan have pointed to Wolverine attempting to get X-23 to the world's final colony of mutants, a group that could very well be Homo Superior's last hope. You have to believe that there will be more to the story than that alone, however, and I wouldn't be remotely surprised if an attempt to restart the mutant race plays a key role here. Perhaps there's something about Laura which makes her pivotal to that, though I suppose it's every bit as likely that this is simply the safest place for her as Zander Rice and the Reavers attempt to track her down and turn the youngster into a weapon.

I really can't believe that Logan is going to end on the bleakest possible note, though, with the X-Men still being dead and gone, Wolverine possibly now among them, and X-23 left to fend for herself in a camp full of ageing mutants that are the last of their kind. For that reason, I'm thinking that we may very well have her to thank for a bright new future of this world even if it's an era we don't revisit.

1. Wolverine Doesn't Die

I know I've alluded to the death of Wolverine a few times throughout this feature, but I'm not so sure that Hugh Jackman and James Mangold are going to go down the predictable route of killing him off to end his story. We know that the Adamantium on his bones is slowly killing him and that his healing factor is on the fritz, but it's feasible that Wolverine could be given a happy ending of sorts in Logan, even if it's just him decided to raise X-23 as his own and to retire from the superhero biz (which wouldn't be all that different to the ending of Old Man Logan).

Plus, despite Jackman's frequent claims that he's ready to walk away from the role, I believe he'll be back, especially if this R-Rated release ends up being as successful as Deadpool. Throw in the fact that Ryan Reynolds has been pushing for a team-up between the Merc with the Mouth and Wolverine (something fans love the idea of), and I fully expect him to make it out of this one alive!
