X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST Costume Designs Getting A Helping Hand From Jock

An update on the costume designs we're likely to see in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Bryan Singer previously confirmed that the black, leather suits from his X-Men films won't be returning.

Last November, when Bryan Singer revealed that his costume designer from X-Men and X2 Louise Mingenbach would be returning to design costumes for X-Men: Days of Future Past, many fans jumped the gun and complained that the leather, black suits would be returning. However, Singer quickly clarified a few days later and simply stated that there would be no leather suits. The fear pendulum quickly swung to the opposite end and some took that to mean that there wouldn't be any costumes in the film. However, not too long ago product designer and comic book artist Jock revealed that he's working on the costume designs for the film. This tidbit went unreported as back in January, the artist also shared that he was working on the film alongside Lee Garbett.

How far do you want the costumes in X:DOFP to stray from those in First Class?

I hope we dont ever see that yellow and blue costume for Wolverine on screen because it doesn't even fit him in the comics.

@MARVELPSYCHO79: Notice how the top one looks like Fassbender, and the older one like McKellen.

Again, @JatevinM that is your personal opinion...just as we feel they should look like that. It's that eye of the beholder thing again.

That cloth suit on a fit guy like Fassbender is silly. I can understand McKellen wearing it, but Fassbender can pull the battle suit off.

would be really cool to see a new version of the First Class suit, and of course colour on the suits from the future timeline. Its really easy to update and make the comic costumes work on the big screen. They can use similar materials of the FC suit, or Captain America 1, or even the same material as the Oblivion costume of Tom Cruise, that look like leather, but its grey, so as long as Singer and crew give each x-man/woman his iconic colour, just a little less intense, it will be perfect!

it wouldnt look bad. Some fans just dont have a clear vission of the materials and the right tones.

There was nothing wrong with the First Class outfits. I believed them way more than I ever did those god awful Black, Leather ones.

Just expand on that? As for Magneto...I think it's safe to say that First Class has already given us our glimpse of him with parts of his Comic Book outfit...at least with the helmet anyway

yeah, in fact the FC outfit is a modern version of that "original costume". The main difference is that the comic costume has more yellow parts.

I think the movie crew could add more yellow here and there, while still looking cool.

The Wolverine from the COMICS would never wear any of the suits he wears in the comics. The only reason he wears them is because it's a comicbook trope. And NO OTHER REASON.

If anybody ever questioned it, he'd say "you know what, you're right - it does look stupid and entirely inappropriate for a guy like me to be wearing. I'll never wear it again."

KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:47 AM
And as for the mask...

KeithM
KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:52 AM
It's not about "can they make it work in live-action?" (although in Wolvie's case - they can't. Period), but about the characters motivations - why would they wear a suit? Would they wear a suit at all? If the only reason you can think of is "because they wear one in the comics" or "because that's what superheroes wear" you failed. They're not reasons, they're tropes.
KeithM
KeithM - 3/6/2013, 5:59 AM
If anyone says the brown and orange suit is for "hunting" or camouflage, they can stand in the corner with the "I speak before thinking" hat on. No it isn't. Otherwise you'd see real hunters wearing something vaguely similar. They don't. It isn't for hunting or camouflage. It wouldn't be fit for purpose. It's just the same trope in a different colour.
