Alan Cumming On If Nightcrawler Is Returning For X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

A fan favorite from X2, actor Alan Cummings discusses the possibility of returning to the role of Nightcrawler in Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Would you want the Elf to return?

With time travel or alternate dimensions, the door is open for nearly anyone from the first 3 X-Men films to may a return in Days of Future Past. That's why actor Alan Cumming, Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler) in the second X-Men film was asked about a possible return to the franchise.

"I haven’t gotten the call. Someone told me that Nightcrawler doesn’t appear in the story but I don’t know, I think they would have called by now. It was funny that film because I really like it and everyone really responded to Nightcrawler and enough time has elapsed that I would like to go back to it. Although then when I did that film it was sort of the start of this spate of superhero and comic books made into films so it felt a little more special then it does now. X2 was a really great film, not just as a comic book film. I think it’s one of the films I’d been in that I think of as really good."

That would make for an interesting story seeing that Mystique is his mother and Azazel is his father. There was a cut scene during the beach fight in X-Men: First Class where Azazel shouts "You will have my baby." But I'd probably say he won't be back, cameos withstanding seeing as how that's a very complicated storyline for a film that already has very busy moving parts.

Singer has already started preproduction on the film and reports speculate that filming could commence sometime in Spring 2013.

I really do hope that Singer offers Cumming to reprise the role as Nightcrawler. That was such a spot on casting that Singer did there. And Cumming himself was amazing with his performance as Kurt. One of the reasons why I enjoy X2. The action, the performance, and the overall fact that I got to see one of my favorite X-Man on screen played by such an extraordinary actor. Here's to hoping, my friends! ;)

eh they already have Azazel no need for another teleporter. plus in X2 Mystique didn't even seem like his mother nor gave him much attention

@Sanderman - True. She did seem like she didn't care that much of him. Shame. Hooefully that'll be explained soon. Don't know when or how, but hopefully they do.

I remember when this first came out, he hated the project, didn't like the makeup process or the story etc.....now the franchise is making some serious money....he's all for it!? I think his portrayal of Nightcrawler was good, however easily replaced....

Everytime I watch X2, I can't help but rewind the White House scene again and again. Such an incredible way of displaying Nightcrawler's ability and his amazing acrobatic feats. Love it everytime. :)

@TopCat89 - I honestly can't think of any other actors to replace Cumming's performance as Nightcrawler. Can you give a suggestion as to who you think should portray Nightcrawler, if not Cumming?

@TheAmazingSpidey63

First guy that comes to mind was Andrew Garfield....i liked his performance in Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. However obviously he's Spidey, which also was a good performance in my eye. I'm personally not familiar with the new generation of teen/20's actors, however i'm sure there are a few that fit the bill.

Nightcrawler should be portrayed by a younger more agile actor, Cumming is getting on a bit. And as decent as his performance was, i'm ok with him being replaced.

I would love to see Nightcrawler return. I know he wasn't a fav of some X-men creators but I liked him. Just be great to have a SNIKT and a BAMPH.

Nightcrawler deserves to be in DOFP!

Joseph Gordon Levitt maybe!?! Know he's not in his teens or 20's...but he certainly looks young and fit....and has the acting chops for the role!

Nightcrawler was amazing in X2, without doubt one of the best characters on the franchise to date.

would love to see him again on the big screen. This sequel doesnt seem to be the right moment at all, but if not now, hopefully in a possible X-men 4 after this.

You know, I'm really getting the feeling that most of the users here have not read Days of Future Past before. I can understand that - as getting your hands on a copy has only just been feasible, and in the past the only trades that collected it were being sold for way too high a price. Ebay is full of extortionists.

But guys... read before you comment, pretty please?
Days of Future Past is known for five things.
1) Time Travel
2) Showing multiple character deaths in one issue (although, they were from an alternate timeline)
3) Introducing Mystique's New Brotherhood of Mutants
4) Making Kitty Pryde a legitimate member of the X-Men
5) Declaring Mystique to be Nightcrawler's mother

Nightcrawler is locked in combat with Mystique during this issue, who has assumed his identity. Considering the opening sequence of X2, it would make all the more sense for Nightcrawler to appear before the White House. The ironic thing is, Senator Kelly is already dead in the movies.

@Intruder Took the words right outta my mouth.

First class was cool enough, but someone wants to make sure the follow up is pure deluxe grade A shit. I'm smelling a jumbled time travel plot for the sake of shoving characters into the film.

Hmmm...I'm all for another go on the big screen (last time left me wanting more) but I'd like to see someone else's take on my favorite comic book character of all time.
Who? Vincent Cassel, of course!

Vincent Cassel is a pervert. Not really, but you know, I've never seen him portray anyone who wasn't. He'd fit in with Azazel than Nightcrawler.

No one's skeevier than Cummings. He was creepier than Azazel who supposed to be a "demon" mutant!

We need more swash and buckle, we need the Night Fox for Nightcrawler!

Singer if you and the big wigs at Fox can include every character under the sun who wasn't in a story then you can definitely bring back Nighcrawler. The fans want to see him and Alan Cumming wants to play him again.
