Bryan Cranston Almost Played 'Sebastian Shaw' In X-Men: First Class!

While talking to the folks over at Collider about his films like Drive, Rock of Ages and more, Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston revealed that he was amost cast as the villain 'Sebastian Shaw' in Fox & Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class. Here is what he had to say:



I read for the Kevin Bacon role in X-Men: First Class, and it was like "Oh yeah, that’s a possibility," and then there was this thing happening over here. It’s kind of like things coming up like materials and projects that are coming in and out, because quite often it’s almost like a wave, “Oh here it comes, oh no that wave didn’t break. Why? Funding went this way, the lead dropped out, any number of things can happen.


Cranston is a great actor, and I'm sure he would be perfect playing the villain. Maybe he will have time to do a sequel playing another character? Now that would be awesome. What do you think?

This would have been awesome but I think Bacon was great in the role. I agree with @Mr.Anonymous Cranston would be a great Norman Osborn.

cranston would be great playing anything! im sure he would find a way to pull off peter parker! lol. cranston is incredible and breaking bad is the best show on tv. (dexter, walking dead, boardwalk empire, are all great too, but bb is the best!)

I've loved this guy since Malcolm in the Middle! Watching him dance in front of the mirror in his tighty whities while singing to himself was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on TV!

Bacon did an okay job with the part, but he didn't look the part. Cranston looks the part and is a better actor, so he would have been a better pick. My two pennies with.

Yes, I too will call for Cranston to be the next Osborn/Goblin! I think he would be amazing in that role. But it rarely works our for the actors to gets the roles the fans cry out for them to get. Last time I remember it working is when TPTB slated Peter Cullen to be the voice of Optimus Prime in the movies. Of course none of us knew at the time they were intending on making those movies such mediocre drivel.

I like the suggestion of Cranston playing Norman Osborn. But I'm sure he would be pretty darn terrific in any role he put his time and effort into.
