Amandla Stenberg stars as Ruby, possibly the world's most powerful
mutant superpowered teenager in a world where the government has decided to imprison teens who recently acquire mysterious abilities.

Kung Fu Panda 2 and
3, makes her live-action directorial debut.
The Darkest Minds arrives in theaters August 3. It will contend with
Mission: Impossible - Fallout (July 27),
Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (July 27), and Disney's
Christopher Robin (August 3) at the box office.
The film is based on the Disney-published book series of the same name from author Alexandra Bracken. Bracken also wrote the novelization of
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.
When teens mysteriously develop powerful new abilities, they are declared a threat by the government and detained. Sixteen-year-old Ruby, one of the most powerful young people anyone has encountered, escapes her camp and joins a group of runaway teens seeking safe haven. Soon this newfound family realizes that, in a world in which the adults in power have betrayed them, running is not enough and they must wage a resistance, using their collective power to take back control of their future.
