James Mangold Talks THE WOLVERINE Post-Credits Tie-In To X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

In anticipation of the film's release today, The Wolverine director James Mangold had a chat with Digital Spy about the hyped after-credits sequence. Setting up for Hugh Jackman's mutant's next appearance in X-Men: Days of Future Past, Mangold says of the stinger, "I had finished the movie

and Future Past had started shooting, a couple months ago, and we had been talking about what to do, if anything, in the tail credits of this movie." He says, "It's something I had been talking about with Simon Kinberg (producer) and Bryan Singer at that point about what we might do to kind of feed into it. My only stipulation that was important to me was just that I really didn't want it to be tongue-in-cheek. I feel like a lot of these bonus things almost make the film into a joke, and that wasn't interesting to me." Mangold continues, "I thought it would be more interesting to try and actually do something quite promising, actually say something and promise something and give people a piece of a story. The whole sequence was built around the shot where we'd unveil Patrick, and I created this shot where he's weaving
through all these frozen airport patrons and that is Patrick Stewart with a joystick and electric wheelchair and that isn't easy,"
he explained. "He's doing a kind of Olympic slalom through all these extras and uh, he's a badass on that thing." When asked if he was glad that it would be Bryan Singer's job to fully explain how Patrick Stewart's Professor Charlves Xavier is alive after X-Men: The Last Stand, Mangold replied, "Yes, it is his job and I know they have one, so I'll leave it to them to unveil it."

Anyhow, X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently filming, and stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Patrick Stewart, Michael Fassbender,, Ian McKellen, Nicholas Hoult, Omar Sy, Peter Dinklage, Halle Berry, Adan Canto, Fan Bingbing, Anna Paquin, Evan Peters, Daniel Cudmore, Ellen Page and Booboo Stewart. Bryan Singer directs the film in theaters on May 23, 2014!

Yea, its without a doubt the best post credits Easter Egg since Iron Man.

I never liked the Iron Man 3 post credits scene because it was dumb to include Banner since he's not a therapist so its stupid to have him as one.

The Wolverine scene was great and gets you excited for DOFP.

@LEVI

Although the IM3 isn't the best post-credits scene, it actually fits the whole "unreliable narrator" bit that started the film.

I'm fine with Mark back but it never made sense.

It's nice to see Tony and Bruce hanging out when they're not fighting villains, even if the conversation was likely one-sided.

@Franshu

In the post credits scene of X3 he placed his mind in the body of some guy who was I believe a vegetable then they transformed his body to look like his old one, thats just my guess. Not sure about the transformation thing or if its just Xavier making other people think thats how he looks.

This was the best post credits scene I have ever seen.

But the IM3 scene was also great. Although I would prefer a scene that tie into other films, I REALLY enjoyed it. The whole theater laughed and it was very hysterical. Marks and Robert chemistry is great.

What are you talking about? The Origins one was epic with Deadpool breaking the 4th wall and telling us "ssshhh". That was awesome.

Yeah one of the best post credit scenes for sure. I'm actually excited for X-Men movies made by Fox. I've learned to accept the butchering of the characters and just enjoy it for what it is.

I think Xavier should have inhabited the body of Cassandra Nova. Then it could have been, like, Helen Mirren with Patrick Stewart's voice.
Crawler

Plus, Helen Mirren could hag it up and go bald. Karen Gillan eat your heart out.

Ocelot
Ocelot - 7/26/2013, 11:17 AM
I'm calling it now, Styrker and Trask will give him(Wolverine) Adamantium in Days of Future Past and when Wolverine's mind goes back to the present he'll wake up with adamantium claws, grey hairs and an adamantium arm, basically becomming Cable which will lead into the X-FORCE film.

Also Bishop will come from the future where thr X-MEN lose and warn Xavier of the Sentinel dystopia.

TelaVizion
TelaVizion - 7/26/2013, 11:25 AM
IM3 post credit made since. Tony is telling this story to his friend. Like most of the time when you are the friend, you don't wanna hear it (which Banner didn't).

People talk to people they're close to when sh*t happens to them. The whole visual of the movie was the story he was telling Banner at the time.
