James Marsden Shares His Thoughts On Superman And X-Men Reboots!

The actor, who played Cyclops in the original X-Men trilogy and Lois Lane's husband in Superman Returns, shares his thoughts on the rebooting of the franchises and his lack of involvement in them...

In an interview with Screenrant about his role in upcoming animated movie, Hop, the actor was quizzed about his parts in the X-Men trilogy and Superman Returns. Here's what he had to say.

"I know so little about First Class. I’m still happy they’re making the X-Men movies, and Fox is smart they can keep making these movies with the wealth of back story – you could do a spin-off of every character. The challenge of the first was having ten to fifteen characters and having enough time to establish who they are, especially with the years of back story. But I don’t look back and feel any disappointment. I’d love to come back and do a new one with the original group, but they’re busy."

"As for Superman, I’m glad they’re doing it. And I just read that Amy Adams was cast as Lois Lane (his co-star in Enchanted), which is perfect. I look at every movie as its own thing, and they’re going for a totally different tone. I can only look at it as a fan’s perspective, which is why I wanted to be a part of it the one I was in. Now I look at it as a fan of the character, and I’m excited there’s a new one."

While it's pretty obvious that the actor would not be returning for Zack Snyder's take on the Man of Steel, it looks like he's heard nothing about Fox's plans to make X-Men 4 and 5! Be sure to share your thoughts on this in the usual place.

what x-men reboot? anyways the guy could have been awesome cyclops with the right director and better script which didn't make him a secondary character shame we'll probably never see him again as cyclops. and IF first class is a success I doubt the fact that X4 and X5 will happen, they will probably end up doing sequel's to it.

Cyclops never got his due in the movies. It really feels like people kept [female dog]ing about the character so instead of just making him a more interesting character (like Joss Whedon did) they just killed him off, and thus he was cut out of the Dark Phoenix storyline (which in the comics he was a major player in). It just felt lazy.

Any credibility X1 and X2 had (which was VERY little) was smashed to shit by X3. Screw those movies. Erase. Start over. Please reboot from the ground up. Now.

They should make a Cyclops Origins film or make a standalone film after X3 where Cyclops returns and kind of does his own thing. Maybe introduce Cable?

I just watched X2 recently and he's in the film about as much as X3! I never realized before but Cyclops screen time is small except for the first film.

Marsden was completely wasted in the previous X-films. I thought he had the makings of being an amazing Cyclops. I hope they'll bring him back and do something good with his character.

@SSirf it says he wants to work again. The man ain't stupid. Everyone can't pull a Chuckles Sheen and expect to find work. Also Fox is smart enough. i don't think they lost a dime on a single x movie.

PS: Xmen Reboots? First class is more a prequal. I hate the term reboot anyway. James Bond just kept making more for example without having to reuse the word.

Cyclops is my favorite X-Man, and they screwed his character. i still think FOX owes him bigtime!!!

He's cool and a good actor, too bad Singer completely destroyed him with a shitty written role. He should get another chance in a CMB.

Psh Marsden. The guy was interviewed a few years back and was asked why SR failed in the fan's eyes. He clearly said he loved Singer's Superman film and said that kids only hated SR because they don't like how pure Superman is and that they want a darker Superman. THAT was NOT the reason SR failed. It failed due to lack of action and the fact that it was an homage film. But Marsden was in denial that Singer fu*ked up.

I'm with "SSirf" Marsden kissing the asses of Singer and Fox may be a good business move but it pisses me off as a fan.

As for Singer...he fu*ks up everything. Someone needs to permanently remove him from CBMs. He just keeps on ruining every franchise he touches.

I like Marsden but I never saw him as Cyclops. Not to mention FOX crapped all over his character from scene one. He's a good actor and could probably pull off another CBM character but I don't know that Daredevil is the one. Maybe Wonder Man if he still has the glasses.

everyone keeps talking about X4 and X5 an so on as a continuation from X3. but im pretty sure she meant it in a different way. X4 being 1st class, X5 being its sequel. and so on. even though they are prequels, i believe she is just counting them like that. anyways, would love to be wrong, but theyd need to get on it before those previous actors get too old.

To be fair they never show Cyclops' dead body in The Last Stand so it' s completely plausible for him to return if they make another movie set in modern time.
