James McAvoy Doesn't Think The Two Xavier's Will Come Face To Face In X-MEN: DOFP

X-Men: Days of Future Past star James McAvoy reveals that we shouldn't actually expect to see him come face to face with Sir Patrick Stewart's older Charles Xavier in the Bryan Singer helmed sequel and also reflects on the opportunities the mutant franchise has allowed him.

Talking to Empire Magazine, James McAvoy was asked for his thoughts on the seemingly never ending speculation that X-Men: Days of Future Past will see the younger Charles Xavier come face to face with his older self (played by Sir Patrick Stewart). "It'll be cool, but I don't think we get any scenes together, sadly. I don't think there's any future self talking to past self." Many of you may be wondering why the British actor has been keeping such a low profile after the success of X-Men: First Class. Well, he hasn't. Instead, he's grateful to the superhero franchise for allowing him to take on roles in the likes of Trance and Welcome to the Punch. "Having an X-Men in your back pocket, which hopefully will go for three movies, it makes you go, 'Right, it doesn't matter if I make 14 films that nobody sees...because in two years' time I'll make another X-Men'. Meanwhile, Fox are thinking, 'Why isn't this [frick]er out there building his profile so he can make us more money on the second X-Men?' But that's their fault for hiring me!"

STARRING:

Michael Fassbender as Magneto
Nicholas Hoult as Beast

The past and future selves never met in the storyline so it seems fitting.

I fully expect this to be passing-of-the-torch, now. I expect old cast members to return... so they can get killed by the Sentinels. Except Wolverine and Shadowcat, of course. Would anyone be okay with McAvoy being the primary Xavier from now on? I need to see him bald, I just can't see it now. But Fassbender is [frick]ing awesome as Magneto, so [frick]ing perfect.

Wait... am I correct to say that we can now expect the X-Men franchise to remain as a period piece. I'm all for that. They need to fix Cyclops and Jean (and other shit), but the 70s is perfect. Great period of the comics, too.

LMAO I love McAvoy, very classy actor who lives a tame life. Gotta respect that.

Him and Fassbender bromance is one of the best pairings ever.

Then what's the point of DOFP? That's what everyone wants to see!

Well, that and the sentinals...

So, I guess Trank's Fantastic Four may be set during the Space Race (either during the Kennedy or Nixon era)?

@MAGNETOX Absolutely. Genosha, Mr. Sinister, Apocalypse, Asteroid M... after five films, it's about time we see them. Some things just work better in the 70s and 80s (like you said: Jubilee).

While 20th Century Fox has the rights, their "Shared Universe" needs to be set during the Vold War. Why not? At Marvel Studios, we wouldn't see that. Captain America: The First Avenger was a period piece, but the goal was ultimately to put him in Present Day. And to add to the possibility of Fox's Marvel films taking place during the Cold War: Joe Carnahan's The Man Without Fear was set in the 70s.

Of course they won't meet, they never met in the original comic. There isn't even any future Xavier in it, only a grave with his name on it.

Of course they can change who survived and who didn't. But still, no future X-Men met with their past selves. I don't know why, suddenly, they would start meeting each other. Though I admit the scene could be really cool.

There seem to be a lot of people under the impression this is going to follow the comic 100% perfectly. Remind me, how many Fox superhero movies have absolutely faithfully adapted a storyline? Don't see why they'd change now.

This is how bad ass Patrick Stewart is and why he is one of my favorite actors. He does star trek and a lot of other movies. He is known around the world for his abilities on stage and tv and movies. Then what does he do? Voices a character on American Dad. Much respect Mr Stewart. Much respect.
