In a recent interview with
FILMz, James 'Charles Xavier' McAvoy talks about his interest in the
Star Trek franchise, walking in Patrick Stewart's footsteps in
X-Men: First Class, and expresses interest appearing in a future sequel to JJ Abrams'
Trek. He also confronts rumors of his playing Scotty in the 2009
Trek film.
On his being a trekkie...
"I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a diehard trekkie, because I don't know my onions enough... But I am definitely a fan, especially of the first series. I kinda like Deep Space Nine, Voyager is my least favorite."
On walking in the footsteps of Patrick 'Jean-Luc Picard' Stewart...
To play Professor Jean-Luc Patrick Stewart Xavier is amazing. And I went through a brief period where I thought I was gonna try and do an impresson of Sir Patrick. I was trying to do an impression of Jean-Luc Picard as Charles Xavier. I'm like four people in one... But we ditched that after two minutes of rehearsel.
On rumors of his playing Scotty in 2009's Star Trek...
No, no, not at all. I think Simon Pegg did a fantastic job playing Scotty, and he did a great Scottish accent, it has to be said. And the original Scotty (James Doohan, ed.) wasn't played by a Scotsman, so in a way... it's kinda more authentic.
On possibly appearing in a Star Trek sequel...
Are you kidding? I'd love that. I'd kill to do that.
X-Men: First Class hits theaters June 3rd, while
Star Trek 2 arrives sometime in 2012!
